I can't *believe* how low the load averages have been since you finished
yesterday's reaping.  Yesterday evening the load average was at 2 or lower
anytime I looked.  It's below 1 now.  Wowza!

   Once the shadow password replacement code for getpwent() and friends
can be trusted, and programs use them, we'll see speeds similar to this
no matter how big the password file gets.

   Well, if we can change the shared libraries that have the original
routines to the shadow versions, then everything will be sped up.  What
I don't know (yet) is how much work that will be.  I figure that other
more pressing problems get first prio, then things like that.
