Indeed good news, jep. Glad to hear it.
I think that even if Chiropractors dont do much good beyond a placebo
effect (and I dont know enough about the practice to know much of
anything about it), the pain is still gone and that is what counts. The
placebo effect is a powerful thing and worthy as a treatment, imho.
Hey, the pain is gone right and you cant argue with that!

I wasted money on a doctor when I hurt my arm, and then went to a friend who
teaches and practices massage therapy, who for less than half the cost spent
three times as long diagnosing the problem, explaining what caused it, and
suggesting exercises I could do to make my arm move again. I had told the
doctor I wanted this information but he refused to do anything but tell me
to go to a place that does ultrasound therapy (which would have cost me $2000
and taken up 4 hours two or three times a week). If the chiropractic results
are not permanent, would you like his name? He is thoroughly trained in
bones, muscles, and nerves.

I agree that its great she's no longer in pain. I just hope its not a pain
delay through chinese medicine while the cause is actually worsening.

I agree that many Chiropractors are full of it. You are not going to cure
my diseased liver by cracking my bones.
On the otehr hand, Doc Brown used to lay on the hands and adjust the spine
with minimal pressure. And he could diagnos things that were wrong just by
touch "you have a headache" You have a migraine " You need to see your
doctor about your kidneys" That kind of thing. And if there was a bone out
of alighnment on jep's daughters foot that was pinching a nerve it is very
possible that he removed that pressure.

My stepdaughter has been in almost constant pain, pretty severe pain,
for almost a year. Today, from the word I got at noon, she was not in
any pain and was able to walk normally for the first time in all of
that time.
If it's temporary relief and she needs to go back to the chiropractor
next week, or tomorrow for that matter, then I'll be happy to have her
go. It's the best results she's had from anything she's done so far.
She will turn 15 in a month and was facing life in a wheelchair in the
not too distant future. Now, someone is telling her she can have a
normal life. I hope that guy is right. (And I am sure you hope that,
too.) If he's wrong, at least right now she is getting a break from
the pain.

I *would* like to know, if it was a skeletal problem of some kind, why
several MRIs didn't show it.

The reason I fucking hate chiropractors is cuz my step brother went to one
for years and years for painful feet. He was a drummer and bassdrum required
the foot and it sucked to see him in pain. Anyway..his mom was juicing my
step-dad on the bills for this hocus pocus bullshit until one day they
discovered he had progressive Muscular Dystrophy. By then, he couldn't even
take one step without most of the bones in his feet breaking.
Chiropractors are like car mechanics, imo..and 99% of the time you're going
to get a scheister that spews alot of fluff they get out of their metaphysical
conartist books.

While going through the later Seed Savers' catalog (a large book listing
vegetable seeds and some fruiting plants traded between members of the
organization) I found an Ann Arbor member and phoned him. He is growing 30
types of potatoes from Bolivia and 41 tomatoes and would be delighted to share
the potatoes with our organic farmer friends, and to give us tomato and other
seeds this Sat 10-12 am at Leslie Science Center, where he is trying to start
a seed exchange by giving away seeds the first year. He is also selling seeds
and eventually seedlings at the food coop. Imagine having a choice of 31
kinds of tomatoes that will grow in Ann Arbor. There are also some short
season watermelons. And a few other people in Michigan are offering fava
beans, cowpeas, and tepary beans, and fennel, and lima beans, and one
miscellaneous legume. Beans will grow in poor soil, unwatered, without pests,
and it would only take about 10 city lots to grow enough for 2 of us for a
year but it is fun watching them grow. Then there is a page of Ground Cherry
to choose from, sorghum, quinoa...

There are a few places that properly pour. Conor O'Neil's does an adequate
job, and I'm sure there are a few places in NYC/Chicago, but my fave place
is Nanny O'Brien's in DC.
