can you give your manager a bad review? or at least talk to her boss?
I'm annoyed because approximately half or 3/4 of our lab stuff is in boxes
awaiting the move to new lab space. Which hasn't been certified yet. We're
out of boxes, so no more packing can be done. My desk stuff alone filled
five large boxes (so far!)
I'm also sad because a friend had her laptop stolen--someone knew enough to
pry open her desk drawer with a crowbar and take it. (I'd warned her about
leaving it there...but there is no joy in saying i told you so.)

i honestly feel like having a job is all about doing the minimal amount
required of you, while making sure the person right above you (potentially
threatened by you) thinks you're an idiot (but nice and reliable).

That really sucks, flem. Kudos on seething and sticking it out, and I hope
you get some recognition for what you've done from other sources.
Sometimes quitting is actually the best way to make the point, if you can
effectively do it with options. Rare situation, but it happens.

flem's company probably wants him to quit, so they can save the expense of
a firing or layoff (unemployment benefits and whatnot).

Quite possible. But they're sure setting themselves up to fire me in a month,
and I'm strongly tempted to let them.

June 2 isn't very far away when you've been some place for 3 years. If
you can avoid being fired on June 1, anyway.

It smelled like a bus station outside at 7 am. Mornings are supposed to have
clean air, not inversions.

I suppose I'm pretty low on the totem pole as far as money problems go,
but I'm still way bummed and a bit freaked out. Right now, I'm up to $500
of rent overdue, _negative_ 200 bucks in the bank, and no job. There's
always mom and dad to fall back on in a dire emergency, so it's not like
I'm down to plasma-selling level yet, but it's still not a happy
situation.

IBB of a nasty allergy attack. Ended up spending about 9 hours doing
breathing treatments and what-not in the ER room.

A late due date is nothing to be bummed about, Jack. Relax, it might
take another couple of weeks without anything being unusual or wrong at
all. View it as your last period of sleeping for a while. You're
going to yearn for the time before the baby came, as soon as the little
bugger is born.

hmmm. apparent epidemic of dead cars.
Still stuck on moving-related annoying stuff in lab. The latest: discovering
about ten solvent pots containing calcium hydride or sodium metal that need
to be quenched. Anyone remember those chem lab videos where they dropped a
chunk of sodium into water?
3:30 pm and I miss my bed.
