In other words: "Ok, we get the point, those dumb little analyses are
annoying, please stop posting them." would have been much more direct,
wouldn't have pissed me off, and would probably have accomplished what you
wanted to accomplish.

I'm sorry that #473 was flame bait. I should have been more diplomatic.
And no, it's not that analyses are unwelcome. But sometimes in this game
it *is* possible to prove what the word is; however, this was not one of
those times.

I really can't stand it when people dilute the meaning of the word
"proof". (And "Prove A is true", "Demonstrate A is true", and "Show A is
true" are all pretty much equivalent.) I admit that this is my pet peeve.

You did (try to) prove something: "if the word is in <your favorite
database>, then it must be 'vitrify'". That's all you had to say to avoid
being wrong.

I wasn't really trying to avoid pissing you off.

I thought I did say that, in my amendment (I acknowledged for my proof to be
valid, the assumption "word is in OneLook [or OED, or 'any dictionary
available']" must be taken). I'll be more careful in the future. The "proof"
part actually involves listing the possible string frames, and then the word
is arrived at by finding all the words that fit those string frames. Yeah,
I realize a techical proof wouldn't list all the possible words, but rather
all the possible strings.

Anyway, it's cool. Sorry I threw a hissyfit.
