The neighbor for whom we do laundry and bike repair has been bringing over
boxes of chocolate peanut butter pretzels and getting Jim sick (he eats it
all within a few hours) after he ran out of apples. (He gets things by
volunteering at a church where they give out food from local stores). Today
he came to ask if I had a dryer because he has a new job as a cook at a
nursing home and his jacket is heavy cotton (I said to plan ahead three days
in this damp weather). If we are awake after 7 (we have a couple of other
neighbos who keep unusual hours) he will bring us the leftover vegetables from
supper. I expect once will be enough to fill the freezer. What are we going
to do with all the local produce we froze last fall?
Would Food Gatherers want to pick up from a nursing home?

donate it to the local homeless shelter. Those people need to eat too

I don't think our shelters have kitchens. Homeless people eat at several
local churches, which are supplied by Food Gatherers' with food from local
restaurants, and leftovers from the Farmer's Market, etc.

My hard drive at work died earlier this week. I've been limping along
using a laptop instead.
Today I got my replacement hard drive. Right now I am busily copying
files. At some point in the not too distant future, I will be back up
and running normally, which will be cause for great joy. So right now
I am pretty happy.

IVHB my favorite tv show returns on Sunday after a nearly two year
absence, The Sopranos.
They had to wait a year for James Gandolfini to become available again,
and then started shooting new episodes more than a year ago. Creator
David Chase is known to spend more than a month on each episode,
meticulously laying out scenes.
The Sopranos is the darkest show on tv, a shakespearean tragedy about a
king who slowly loses his soul, and as a result everyone around him is
doomed.
This is the first half of the last season.
Let the bloodshed begin.

see why cats would attack homemade quilts anymore than regular store
bought ones...
So far they seem to like sleeping on it. Once they got over their 'WTF
IS THAT>?!?!' thing that cats do.

IHB they just opened a Trader Joe's near where I work. We haven't had one
in Manhattan before. Think I'll go there later and get some Trader Joe's
Gourmet Chocolate Fudge or some Trader Joe's Gourmet Graham Crackers or
something. I like Trader Joe's. The cashiers wear hawaiian shirts :)

I LOVE Trader Joe's. I shop there regularly. I like that they have
frozen pizza's that dont have too much cheese and have whole wheat
crusts and no ingredients that I dont like (like high fructose corn
syrup).

IHB spring is here, for at least the weekend! The high is in the 70s today
with a chance of hitting 80 this weekend, though with a chance of rain
tomorrow. I'm not going to want to pack! Fortunately, I have some friends
coming over to help out. Hopefully, we'll get a lot of this knocked out.

Jim was sent a card worth one free sandwich at Olga's, after he gave blood.
Only problem is Olga's closed years ago. The neighbor brought him more
chocolate pretzels (with pink drips) which are closer than Olga's.

IHB- it was a beautiful weekend, weather-wise, and my guests on Saturday
seemed to enjoy themselves, and my spaghetti. It was the first time the
hubby and I had a number of people over to the apartment all at once-
and I think it was a success. The cats behaved themselves- Leo showing
that once again he knows exactly who to suck up to.

I've talked before about my stepdaughter, who's 14 and has a condition
in her foot called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, an acute chronic
pain for which there is no cure, dang little knowledge at all, and
which can spread. Some people with CRPS can't sit in a breeze because
it hurts too much. My stepdaughter has experienced pain from band
practice because the vibrations go through to her foot. She's had to
give up track, cheerleading, and marching band. She hasn't walked
without pain for a year.
She went to a chiropractor today, and when he worked with her for a
little while, he said "Stand up. You're not in pain." And she
wasn't. My wife says she is walking normally.
The chiropractor said she'll be able to have a normal life.
Last weekend, she was pushed around for the day in a wheelchair because
she couldn't walk, and it looked inevitable that that was going to be
her future.
Let me tell you, *this* is what happiness is like!

Yeah!!! Glad to hear it. What is the name of this Chiropractor? I used to
go to a chiropractor when I was in college, but he is no longer around and
I have been looking for a good one ever since.

I think chiropractors are full of shit and the whole naturopathy thing is a
crock. I know gypsies that can rid you of ailments, too. Neither type of
voodoo is worth a damn beyond mental attitude and psychosis, though.

Indeed good news, jep. Glad to hear it.
I think that even if Chiropractors dont do much good beyond a placebo
effect (and I dont know enough about the practice to know much of
anything about it), the pain is still gone and that is what counts. The
placebo effect is a powerful thing and worthy as a treatment, imho.
Hey, the pain is gone right and you cant argue with that!
