I was done with classes and finals on Monday. Next term starts Monday, but
I'm not officially taking any classes. I will be helping one of my
instructors prepare for his classes. He says that when we are done I will
have to test out of the next 2 semesters worth of Cisco Networking classes.
Since I will be helping to put together his in class materials and doing all
the labs, including the hands-on final, it would be unfair/unethical of me
to actually take them. Since to test the labs and final requires me to do
them, I will just have to take the equivalent written (online) tests and
final. Makes me happy, $80 for test out instead of $429 for tuition and I
finish at the end of summer term. They aren't even offering them this term.

In German there's no such word as boyfriend or girlfriend. Instead one refers
to friend(masculine) or friend(feminine), with no real indication of
romantic or platonic except contextual clues. I got very confused at first
and eventually settled on "a friend of mine" (awkward, but clear) vs "my
friend" (romantic).
I don't like the bf/gf terminology either, but there aren't a lot of good
alternatives. "SO" or "partner" are too PC, "guy I've been seeing" is too
long, other alternatives are too slangy or otherwise irritating. Odd that
English, with so many redundant words, has so few adequate ones in this
area. There's no shading of meaning to distinguish casual dating, medium
serious, committed-for-life-but-don't-want-the-piece-of-paper relationships
from each other either.

That's because the word formed at a time when they *were* boyfriends and
girlfriends... you'd get married in your teens and never date again.

452: You can also use "Bekannter" or "Bekannterin" which are similar to
"acquaintance" but generally imply a greater personal closeness than
"acquaintance" does here.

Speaking of Kellogg's of Battle Creek, at the plant, do
they refer to the truck bays as cereal ports?

Boyfriend and girlfriend are used by older couples because they are
"diminutives" and hence more intimate. It's like calling your SO
"snookums".

Bingo! The etymological origins of the word don't necessarily dictate
its' usage.
Had a friend of mine declare his undying friendship last night. Of
course he was kind of drunk, but still, it's flattering.

In answer to all of the above questions:
I don't know where I will be working, bust I *REALLY* want out of retail.
Carolyn: I have from May 21st on off, so part of that is Boston, and part of
that is moving, but it you want to trip somewhere, I can rearrange
scheduale. For you babycakes, anything. :)
IHB I told my boss today, and she understands and isn't giving me any grief.
This is a Good Thing. I also have actually thought of going back to school
as a real idea (a class or two is all, but still), and I've just been
feeling very free. :)

I've done that fairly recently. :)

IHB I was just informed at our before semester start staff meeting that I am
getting a promotion! More money and can work 10 more hours a week. Current
level only allowed 20 hours per week, new level allows 30.

Do they also give you benefits now? How are you going to fit in 10 more hours
while helping the instructor at WCC?

No benefits, don't need them anyway as I am covered under STeve's. Helping
the instructor is part of the job. As a lab assistant my hours are split
between the open lab and classes. All our beginning computer classes get lab
assistants, some of the higher level speciality classes get them as well.
I work the advanced Oracle Database Administrator classes. The instructor
also does the Cisco Certified Network Associate classes. I will help him
prepare for all of them as he asked my boss if he could borrow me and was told
he could. Spring/Summer is a very slow time for the open lab and he often
has trouble finding enough work for everyone to get in the number of hours
they want. This takes me out of the pool for several hours a week to allow
someone else in.

IHB I have a three day weekend effective a few hours ago... Though tomorrow
has 6 hours designated to finals... but two will only take about 20 minutes
each to complete at the most, which means I can spend 7 hours reading and
reviewing for my two essays for the philos class....
After tomorrow, I have a month and a half off and then H-E-L-L

moviefone for the 6 p.m. show via moviefone.com. And its a good thing
too, since all the later shows were sold out already.

Re: way back there - I called him "the boy" because I felt like it. I wasn't
about to say "my bitch". Not everyone is overly sensitive about titles, ya
know... ;-)
IVHB I have my old job back, part-time. They were overloaded with a new
client, so during a manager meeting, about five people begged the new HR
person to call me. Apparently, they all thought I was a goddess. It's good
to feel loved and appreciated, and if I do a good job with this new client,
I get to be back on FULL TIME. The coolest part is that I get to work at
home.
<bounce>
It was also Very Cool seeing old co-workers before the meeting, and I got to
have dinner with Joe at Knight's Inn before dance practice.

Slowly but surely, things are making more and more sense.
I've got all my stuff moved over to Lester house now. I've got a way cute
little room up under the eaves with it's own fire escape "balcony." Last
night the housemates and I had a little impromptu dance party in the living
room. And I'm actually out of bed in time for class this morning...

IHB my stupid traffic ticket was finally resolved. If you recall from the last
Agora, I was hit with a 4 pt/$200 ticket for "failing to yield to an emergency
vehicle" because I didn't change lanes when I passed a cop on the side of the
road handing out a ticket. I went into the Prosecutor's this morning expecting
a conference of some sort, he read the charge to me, told me he could knock
it down to "improper lane use" based on my driving record (2 pt/$105 fine,
CI instead of a misdemeanor), and said that was the best he could do. I
briefly thought about going back to my lawyer to see if I could do better,
then decided to just take it and let the issue die. I speed enough, I'll take
it as Traffic Karma and leave it at that.

5 minutes, and I am feeling exceptionally loved.

Hmmm. Hadn't really considered referring to him as "my bitch." :) Not very
accurate, and open to misinterpretation (I *am* on an all-women hockey team,
which is always suspect!) I think the current "in" slang in the department
is man-whore, anyway.

IHB I managed to just inch over the marker to get a 2.5 in my ethics class.
I was expecting a 2.0.
No, really, I'm happy!
Now where are those other grades...

You should've cheated to get a better grade.
This shows that you've learned something about ethics - that they're
pesky and get in the way of accomplishments. :)
