outbye - a variant of outby - a Scottish dialect word for "outdoors"
(Believe me, it took a while to locate that one.)

Darn! Darn Darn Darn! I've known that since midnight and I've been waiting
for someone to guess all day! Darn!
(aruba goes off to lurk somewhere else for a change)

Timing, timing, timing... Good work, srw (and aruba). I think I'll
go outbye now. Your word, srw. <kentn slinks away and hopes not
to run into any lurkers>

Huh! My dictionary was open to that page as I read #450 - but neither
word is there. I was going to guess outlie. After all, there are
*outliers*, and things can be "outlying", so there *must* be a "to outlie".
Right?

Alternate spellings of Scottish dialectal words? That's called common?
<brighn whines again>
that's it for me, then

Aw, c'mon. There are hard words and there are easy (well, semi easy)
words. Besides, its the chase that matters, not the winning (though
that helps a little).

No, brighn, don't go away. Remember, I'm the one who comes up with
"normal" words that everybody knows.
In fact, I've got one in mind right now.
I promise that you are familiar with this one.

(In my Web 9th New Coll, "outby" is the alternate spelling, not "outbye".
I rather like that particular dictionary; it's the first one I look in.)

Hmm. well my dictionary probably outweighs your dictionary. I have the
Random House Dictionary of the English Language (10 pounds),
but it is likely to be much older than yours.

buyout 6 (rcurl) !! Very nice, Rane, on the 12th guess.
I have found that using easier words does cause the game to end after fewer
rounds, but it does not seem to diversify the set of winners.
(Read: The same people win, anyway.) This is just an observation.
It is not a value judgment.
You're up Rane, and we're all ready to start guessing.
