PFC conf sounds cool to me. Is there anymore support for my video
conference?

How about a "dwellings" conf, to discuss houses, maintenance, improvements,
apartment ratings, etc?

Although I won't join them, raven's video conference, and scott's dewllings
confernece sounds *okay*...

"Tool Time" sounds useful... Most folks can't change a gasket, let
        alone replace a pipe..

"PFC" sounds like it would be ideal for grex - a co-op taking
        advantage of a community service..

        Good plans..

To make sure I haven't lost any, here's a list of recent conference proposals
and their current status (limited to what's currently in my scrollback buffer,
and my memory for anything older than that).

* Utne, proposed by nsiddall, fw nsiddall, created.

* Fw, proposed by z0mbie, potential fws z0mbie and maybe nephi, waiting for
final decision about whether or not to create it.

* Recovery conference, proposed by void, fw void, created.

* Gay/lesbian/bi conference, first mentioned by me but never officially
proposed, possible fw volunteer brighn.

* ISP conference, proposed by cybergod, still under discussion.

* Video conference, proposed by raven, fw raven?, still under discussion.

* PFC conference, proposed by cmcgee, fw cmcgee, still under discussion.

* Dwellings conference, proposed by scott, fw scott?, still under discussion.

My goodness that's a lot of conferences! For anything that's still under
discussion, I think we're at the point where all I need is the go-ahead from
the original proposer (and in some cases the name of a fw) and I'll go
create it.

Yes I would still like the video conf, I would FW and maybe a friend
here on Grex, I have to see if she wants to co-fw.

Still interested in in the dwellings conf., I would be fairwitness. Nobody
really said anything about this proposal yet.

I'd most certainly follow both the PFC conference and a dwellings
conference.

response 433 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 17 16:03 UTC 1996

If nobody really objects, I'll leave myself a note to create the dwellings
conference some time this weekend.

response 434 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 18 04:42 UTC 1996

Go ahead and create the PFC conference. We have a board meeting next Monday
to discuss the continual below-budget performance at Packard. I'd like to
get some of that up on grex, just so I can announce it at the meeting.

response 435 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 19 09:38 UTC 1996

would the dwellings conference also include stuff like maintenance
and repairs - think i read something headingin that direction for
this conference idea.

and perhaps/probably rent/own buy/lease landlord/tenant items? hmmm,
nice idea.

the PFC conference is a natural (no additives even) for grex.

response 436 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 19 12:21 UTC 1996

Yeah, the dwellings conf will be for all that sort of stuff, from renting &
landlords to "The Furnace Item".

What happened to the Gay/Les/Bi conf?
scott
response 438 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 19 20:53 UTC 1996

I've created the Dwellings conf; "j dwellings" to check it out. I'll be
linking some items when I find time.

Okey dokey, I've created the PFC and Video conferences.
Still waiting for further word on the others.

Fine, Valerie:

I propose a Gay/Lesbian/Bi conference. I'll FW, and will take a second FW.
Any comments/ideas/criticisms?

response 442 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 22 04:50 UTC 1996

a gay/lesbian/bi conference sounds like a very good idea to me, too. i'd
like to fw it too, if brighn's agreeable.

response 443 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 22 19:01 UTC 1996

Sounds reasonable but I question whether there is enough interest for
such a conf...seems like such related discussion can and has been
handled more than adequately in Sexuality II. Also the problem with a
gay/lesbian conf is that it unfortunately invites major flaming. I have
seen gay/lesbian issue confs on other boards get bombarded by the
gay-bashers.

So I would strongly advise that if such a conf is created, that it NOT
be called the "gay/lesbian" conf. Think up some neutral name so that
the gay bashers cant tell what sort of conf this is. And dont use any
obvious pointers like "gay" or "homosexual". No telling how many
bashers will type "join gay" or "join homosexual" hoping to find a conf
such as this that they can ruin with flaming.

Basically, unless there is substantial interest, I think sexuality
handles these issues fine and question whether it is worth it to have a
separate conf.

Twits can be twit-filtered, if necessary. That seems more Grexian than
to assume there will be problems when there may be none.

A name like "Rainbow Room" or similar code could easily be employed.
Void, I was actually hoping you *would* volunteer. You and I should make a
nice balance, I think. =}

response 446 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 23 00:05 UTC 1996

"Rainbow Room"?
*returns after a minute, looking like she just got through being ill*
"The Pink Triangle".. hehe.. how 'bout that?
As for flamers, bring 'em on! I can take them.
Anyway, as for sexuality II handling it.. thanks for your vote of confidence,
but while I FW Sex II, I can tell you that my interest is to keep it easily
open foor any persuasion to speak up. A seperate GLB conference is fine, and
I would probably participate.
Especially if we got flamers.. heeheehee.

response 447 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 23 00:52 UTC 1996

I don't think it is necessary to hide the conference behind an obscure name.
You'll get a few gay bashers whatever you call it, but if you get it going
well, it will take more than an occasional basher/trasher to derail it.

response 448 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 23 06:23 UTC 1996

hiding a gay/lesbian/bi conference behind another name would be just the
same as telling all the gays, lesbians and bi's on grex that they may as well
go hide in their respective closets. i've been fw'ing the glb conference on
m-net (which is called the gay conference, btw) for several months now and
we've had little trouble with flamers. there were a few, but i retired the
flaming items almost as soon as i found them or as soon as anyone called for
them to be retired, and heard no complaints. otoh, i'd have no problem with
handling such things differently here if users in the conference thought
summary retirement was too extreme.

response 449 of 470: Mark Unseen   Oct 23 14:09 UTC 1996

Also, if you hide the conference, then its *intended* participants are going
to have a hard time finding it.

It sounds to me like we're at the point where we are ready to go forward with
creating this conference except for choosing what to name it.
