It isn't the drawing the screen that's slow, it's the program itself. And I
don't think OO would work in fewer colors, though it might.

Abiword needs 8-bit, as did another wordprocessor I checked out. I don't know
why they can't let them work in mono, too lazy to add that I guess. The
program would probably also work faster with a file that had 256 instead or
16 million colors.

They don't work in mono because there is no significant demand in the
marketplace for wordprocessing interfaces which disallow anti-aliasing.

What is anti-aliasing and why do you need it to write text only?

Can we get back to "happy" posts? This is the happy item, put the computer
drift in a separate item

I am happy because my grandparents are coming in tomorrow for a long weekend
visit. We are taking them up to the Grand Canyon/Flagstaff/Sedona this
weekend. I haven't seen them since the wedding, so I'm excited.

IHB- I've had a very lovely vacation, and I don't go back to work until
tomorrow. :) After that it's a three-day week and I'm off work for the
weekend.

I loved Sedona when I was there. I happened to be there on the 4th of
July and got to see the town's fireworks display. What a nice place for
such a thing. As for the rest of Arizona that I saw that trip...well,
let's just say that I wouldnt recommend July as a good time to visit
Phoenix ;)

It's funny - my first experience here was in August. The weather didn't
bother me at all - now I think it's hot, but it seems bearable.

I once spent a week in Phoenix in August. The temperature was 115-120
degrees every day. I found myself drinking a quart of water every 15
minutes, just because I wanted that much water. That was with me
staying inside an air conditioned office all day.

replace.
