I applaud the VP's attempts and only wish he'd invited more friends on the
hunt.

Maybe Cheney was telling the joke about "you shoot the lawyer twice"
and he got carried away with his visual aid.

"I thought this was pretty typical of Cheney - starting shooting before
thinking or looking."

Now this:
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (CNN) -- The fellow hunter who was shot and
wounded by Vice President Dick Cheney has suffered a "minor heart
attack" after a piece of birdshot migrated to his heart, a hospital
spokesman said Tuesday.
Harry Whittington, 78, is in stable condition in intensive care and will
remain hospitalized for up to seven days, hospital officials said.
"Some of the bird shot appears to have moved and lodged into part of his
heart ... in what we would say is a minor heart attack," said Peter
Banko, administrator at Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial.
---------
Sounds like the shooting was more serious than the White House has been
letting on.

Re resp:45: I never expected an incident involving Dick Cheney to
result in someone *else* having a heart attack.
Re resp:40: I guess my question is, if this had been a traffic
accident, would Cheney have been charged with involuntary manslaughter?
If so, how is it different just because he used a gun instead of a car?

Yet. If this guy dies of his wounds, or otherwise as a result of the
gunshot wound, Cheney is on the hook. Or, so he should be.

I've been hit by a pickup truck before.
Was it my fault for not reacting fast enough, or his fault for deciding to
risk a turn and drive into me ?

I think we can all move beyond this simply by mandating that anything Cheney
kills has to be eaten by him. If he can't finish what's on his plate then
he can share it buffet style with the Administration. Setup some big BBQ pits
right there on the White House lawn and get a convoy from Walter-Reed's morgue
going. Snap to it.

And this: Apparently, the owner of the ranch where Cheney went on his
rampage hinted in an interview that the Veep may have had "a beer or
two" prior to the shooting, which may not be such a great thing for a
guy with a couple of drunk driving arrests on his record.

re resp:59: "Apparently" someone said Cheney was drinking? It's not
apparent to me. If there's information, cite it right out in the
open. I'm not going to assume there's anything to a story you cite
like that.
I assume that is all a rumor which was started right here in this item
as idle speculation because it would be so titillating if there was
anything to it. It is nothing short of contemptible to be spreading
that kind of garbage. How much lower can you possibly go for a
standard of reporting and judgement, than to make up a rumor yourself
out of nothing at all, and then repeatedly cite it as a fact?
I'm not a fan of the vice president or the Administration, but I have
nothing but disdain and despite for the "drunk hunting" innuendos which
were started in this item. No one with the slightest self-respect
would act in that manner.

If there's information, cite it right out in the
open.
They were wearing orange hunting jackets. BRIGHT ORANGE jackets.
That's a fact.

it doesnt matter if they were wearing hunting jackets, cheney WAS NOT LICENSED
to hunt quail. He had no legal right to hunt that particular animal. He was
licensed to hunt deer.
