Anyone wanting to vent a lot of anger is welcome to help me dig up my garden
- you won't have the energy left to do walls.

I'll grant you that, Jeff.
I can tell I haven't raised my hand anybody since secondary school
(junior high, I guess in the US)

I guess then that getting grades posted quickly is highly ethical.

re#385: <boggle>
re#390: When I was little, i was shown a wonderfully satisfying way to vent
anger physically without any (apparent) effects which require cleanup or
repair: beat the hell out of a pillow with a tennis racket. (down pillows
not preferred)

Jim is still working on his water heater. We are supposed to be spending 40
hours a week building MY house, not his. For the last 15 years. But he got
the cold water working again. He wants to work on his ventilation system and
reside the house and reroof it next.

I am bummed that I have joined the ranks of parental units whose
step-children bring destruction and ruin. Never mind the felony
convictions, now he is recovering from a 65mph collision with an innocent
tree. (35mph limit)
The Buick Regal I bought my wife is scrap metal. The collision knocked
bark off the opposite side of the tree: I fear that it will die. AT my
wife's insistence he was an unlisted driver.
Oh, I sound rather cranky, but I'm not in as much pain as the step-son
is. After all I can still trump anyone at work who thinks they have
naughty children.

Anger? serious exercise.
Louisa May Alcott used it in Little Men, and it works for me.

Fitz - if my son had done that, I'd have *tied* him to that tree.
(For those about to go on about violence and abuse...it was a JOKE)

IBB my car stalled in the middle of the road today. Couldn't get it
started. Turns out that it needs a new engine.

One not covered by insurance: lives in the house, drives regularly, but the
insurance company doesn't know.

Dave just broke up with me. Five years and an engagement gone... just like
that.
I don't think "sad" begins to describe me.
And NO, I do NOT feel like moving on or finding someone new.

#414> It is not illegal: It is, however, grounds for insurance cancellation
because I did not fully disclose any change in my policy that would effect
the risk. Policy coverage extends to occcasional drivers without listing and
with the policyholder's permission. He gradually became a regular user and
I mentioned getting his driver's license in March to add him on. My wife told
me, "No. Don't do it: Nothing is going to happen." To the insurance company,
it appears that I lied. It looks that way to me too. [self-inflicted bummer]
The lost car and the cost of the replacement isn't going to break me, but the
damage to my reputation is considerable and will likely last through years
of being in the high-risk pool--even after the stepson leaves (which never
seems to happen for long, anyway).

Would it be cheaper to support the stepson in his own apartment elsewhere?
Is it possible to move and not give him a key? How old is this kid?

I see....it hinges on when an occasional driver becomes a regular driver.
I suppose there is no way to make that definitive. When my daughter took
the car she was driving to college I put her on the insurance as the
regular driver of that car, which increased the premium considerably
(under 25, and then she bumped another car in a parking lot....). However
the deal was she paid running expenses and the insurance premium and I
would maintain the car. (But its an old car, so we don't carry collision
insurance on it - just glue it back together when needed.)

I'm sorry to hear that, Sarah.
At least it was only a bump in the parking lot, Rane. Most kids have
incidents with their cars, and that's low on the severity scale. :) Actually,
if that was in Pioneer's lot, my understanding is that few escape unscathed,
which has prompted considerably traffic flow adjustments. Both my sisters
suffered fender-benders before graduation.

Like the hit and run in front of our house early this morning. I was working
at my computer when I heard an engine roar, tires squealing, and crunch, then
the sound of the car pulling away. I got to the door in time to see him drive
off.
Small dark car (later found was dark green Mustang, new) hit a Jeep Cherokee.
Jeep had minimal damage: broken tail light, bumper pushed in to touch the
tire. Mustang left behind: a headlight assembly, a baseball cap, many plastic
shards, and a trail of radiator fluid.
I called it in. When the officer arrived she asked questions and when I
pointed out that she had a good trail, she agreed and followed it. It led
into the parking lot of the apartment complex at the end of our street, looks
like it might be the continuation of the street. It went back out and around
the corner, just as it as fading she saw the car parked on the street. He
actually turned the car around and parked it legally, then left. She traced
the plate and called the owner (Mom). Then had it towed. High school
student. The air bags had been deployed, the front end is now in a V shape,
and it was still hissing, no doubt that it was the car. The cap had been left
as his passenger tried to get out and look, but he pulled him back in and fled
the scene.
Owner's friend was just leaving and saw the whole thing. Idiot peeled out
of the side street, fishtailed, and over compensated right into the Jeep.
I wonder how long it takes before he actually goes home.
