I may be able to stop by briefly around 9:30 or 10 before heading
off to work this time.

I will make a valient effort to drop by about 9:30, too. (I'll very possibly
have my parents in tow. What a concept, eh?) I'm extrememly sorry I can't
be there earlier but personal committments made months ago wuill have me busy
for much of the next 3 weeks.

What about the possibility of grex sharing space temporarily
over at Arbornet Supreme Headquarters? If its just for a
month or two, a space that does not have to be converted or
altered, and that already serves the same purpose, might be
desireable.

The Arbornet HQ is already overheated, I understand, and probably
could not withstand the addition of more equipment.

I think we've already discussed to death the possibility of moving
in with Arbornet, and almost nobdoy liked it. I don't see how this
would have changed, even now.

Several people can't seem to make the Thursday meeting till 9 or 9:30.
Should we set it to start at 9:00 instead?

response 383 of 561: Mark Unseen   Sep 12 00:03 UTC 1996

That would be OK for me, although then we run into the "up too late" problem
instead.

I'd actually prefer that it start before I get there. The later
I stay at the meeting, the later I have to stay at work, and I'd
rather not leave work at 7 AM, I'd rather leave at a more reasonable
time, like 5 AM. >8)

nobody liked moving in with arbornet as a permanent solution
but it couldnt hurt if it was just for a month or two. And we
are talking about October here not July, so overheating
couldnt be quite the same issue now as it was two months ago.

It seems like a lot of trouble to convert a enw place
er...new place if the idea is to only stay there a short while.
Grex should be considering short-term those places that already
meet all of its needs.

I think it most certainly *could* hurt to move in with M-Net
for only a month or two, for all of the reasons we've already
stated elsewhere. (Also, call me wacky, but has anyone even
broached the subject with the folks at Arbornet? Would they
even have us?)

#387...I think they would, I mean with the tech problems
they've had, Idont think they'd mind if Steve Andre or Janc were
frequent visitors to their HQ for a few weeks.

I don't see what we'd gain by moving in with M-Net. The apartment's offered
as temporary homes have at least one spare line. I don't think M-Net has any
spare phone lines.

We voted tonight to try to negotiate a lease with the Cottage Inn people on
Plymouth Road, and if that doesn't work out to go with the cheaper but less
attractive (for lots of reasons that could probably be better summed up at
a time when I'm in less of a hurry) place on West Huron. It looked like the
really exciting sites weren't going to come through in time to be useful this
year, if at all, and we *really* don't have time to wait any longer at this
point.

We don't know about the extension yet.

response 393 of 561: Mark Unseen   Sep 13 13:38 UTC 1996

sorry, I just mailed to baff that the Cottage Inn site on Plymouth Rd is no
longer a possibility. I wasn't able to attend the emergency meetings, but
I have an idea for a _temporary_ location if another option is needed.
Otherwise, I'd say go to W. Huron and consider _it_ temporary (1+years) while
the best options are considered.

response 394 of 561: Mark Unseen   Sep 13 13:39 UTC 1996

If we get the Plymouth Road lease, we will need to build some 2x4 and
sheetrock walls, with electrical hookups. We will be looking for people
who can help build (especially people with wall-building experience, but
any reasonably un-klutzy hands will be welcome), as well as tools and
supplies (lumber, sheetrock, paint, etc). We can pay for supplies, but
if we can find them free or cheap, that'd be great.

response 395 of 561: Mark Unseen   Sep 13 13:40 UTC 1996

Whoops. Rick slipped in. It's no longer available? Wow. Someone else
rented it? By last nights, resolution, this means the West Huron site is the
fall-back.

response 396 of 561: Mark Unseen   Sep 13 15:22 UTC 1996

Maybe thats a blesing in disguise (cottage inn being taken)
Building an entire new wall could have cost even more than $500.

Why is the West huron site more attractive than the Red Cross site?
kerouac
response 397 of 561: Mark Unseen   Sep 13 15:33 UTC 1996

Plus is security at West huron an issue? Thats the one thats across
from a large homeless shelter right? Wouldnt be good to locate grex
in a place where it could get stolen and its hardware end up on a shef
er...shelf in some Detroit pawn shop.

A 2x4 stud walll shouldn't cost anything even close to $750.
Studs are a copule bucks each. tops, and sheetrock is a few
bucks a sheet. The biggest expense is a door and lockset.
