There's also a difference between punching a hole in the wall while you're
alone (which it sounds like grimaldi did) and punching a hole in the wall
while you're with the person who just dumped you (which can easily be taken
as a threat).
All the same, I'll lean a little to Void's side, except that I didn't see
grimaldi saying it was "just fine" that he punched a hole in the wall. He
sounded embarassed by it.

once i got dumped and i punched the soap container at a bar. i didn't even
break it. but really .. it was so stupid .. i think there's more productive
ways to vent pain. but i agree with brighn that as long as didn't do it in
front of her it's okay .. but leaving a hole in a wall if you don't live alone
is agressive and that hole kind of says "look at my pain!".

re 376: or, more often, in the dorms at MSU, it screams, "look, I was drunk"

Dangit, stuinfo, post my grades! What do you mean I just took the finals?
Seriously, I don't see what takes so long to grade about a 20 question
scantron final, in particular.

#376> I dont interpret holes in the walls (punched there) as "Look at my
pain," I interpret them as, "I have rage control issues," which is probably
how void reads them, too (albeit more than me).
That's why the world needs more bubble wrap. A way to get it out without
hurting anyone or anything (although it's annoying as hell).

I don't give a rat's ass what kinds of video games people play. I have
seen a couple of wall-punchers turn into SO-punchers.

Every spouse abuser was originally a child. I think that we should berate all
children into getting help.
Void, you breathe oxygen. All the SO punchers I"ve known are oxygen-breathers.
I think you need to go get help.
"Most X are Y" does not equate to "most Y are X."

I've managed to come up with the beginnings of a cold just as I'm
getting ready to drive to Tennessee. I'll be fine with the miracles of
OTC drugs, but all winter and spring I've avoided illness, then *now* I
have to catch something.

<#370 wasn't meant to be serious. In case there was any doubt about that.>
I have seen people go from stating an opinion to continually stating an
opinion without responding to other's responses to beating a dead horse to
just annoying people. Except that other hasn't responded here. And then I
went and punched my SO. In the wall. And he said, "What are you doing?"
And I said "It's only prohibited where void." And he said "Oh, okay" and
went back to his archaebacteria.

so now I'm a future SO-puncher.. now who's making rash generalizations? Oh
well..I guess I need therapy for swatting plaster.. I felt I had rather good
control after I'd basically had my heart ripped out after a rather stellar
day.... But anyhow... I'm fine.. the wall has been repaired.. I graduate..
and ppfft...

I think the problem, like in John's item, is that most guys have either
taken a swing at the wall, or seriously thought about it, but they don't
mention it in a public forum openly. It's taken as bragging.

I've knocked a hole or two in walls, when a customer got annoying enough (on
the phone). So far I haven't punched any customers...

I usually go downstairs and throw glass jars at the basement wall when I get
angry at someone (we won't mention who). I have never and will never throw
glass jars at a living being. I haven't really done that since STeve bought
me a spinning wheel. The madder I get, the faster I spin. He thinks it is
the best money he has ever spent. He was beginning to dislike sweeping up
broken glass :-)

on things. Pillows work well.

jaklumen - have you looked into WIC? It's an excellent program that many of
my friends have utilized, though I'm not sure if it's Michigan-based.

Venting rage out of pain on anything *but* people is in my opinion the
best way if nothing else can releave it. I have done this too in one
occassion when my world shattered in front of my eyes (when I got
dumped by the love of my life). And yes, I did so in her company. After
ten years I still don't regret it, am not proud of it either.
Aterwards the wall basher will draw the conclusion he/she"s been acting
like fool.
But a better a fool than a brawler (or whatever a basher is called)
