Worked for me. Cute kid. Looks like she's trying to figure out
what the world is about.

I now have a second bike that works even better than the first one that we
put together out of a used frame and new wheels ten years ago. It brakes and
steers a lot faster. The seat posts we had were all too small. Two Wheel
Tango had one for $50 but suggested aluminum shim around one of ours, such
as a piece of pop can. The pop can was too thin but two layers of siding
worked. Jim improvised a kickstand from pieces of two kickstands. Now all
we need is a short straight handlebar instead of the mountain style one that
hits things when I go by and won't fit in the garage bike slot and is too
high. We also inventoried the rest of our frames and parts and recycled a
few hopeless wheels - there are reasons we have these bikes, also broken
brakes and shifters and bent forks and bent dropouts. Jim wants to part out
a cheap grey bike and use the grey fork and wheels on his purple frame, or
maybe the internal brake wheels from the bike that fell apart.

IWLTA to all Pioneer band folk that Mr Albritton is retiring after 20 years
as director of bands. They're having some sort of event to commemorate it;
I'll see if I can find the details and post them.

the suprise event? his last concert was picnic pops, which was last weekend.
It was super cool, but at the same time we all got a chance to remember how
it really was.
He talks for awhile, gets awards, people get up on stage and say nice things,
he plays his last piece... and while the audience is still clapping, he turns
around to the band after bowing and says "Ok, stack chairs."
Heh.
The suprise thing is on June 14th in the evening. Waring had details. Write
her with questions at asstdirector@pioneerband.org. She knows what's up.
And no telling Mr. A!

I pretty much live in Boston year-round. Grad school kinda sucks; there's
no such thing as summer vacation.

What do you do in the summer?
Yeah, the simple fact that I'm disgusted with having to take summer classes
right now makes me think some time off before grad school would be good...

I'm sorry to announce that my mother died last night.
She was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a few years ago, but until
December she was still taking care of my father (who has had several
strokes and is no longer completely on the map) and my sister (who suffers
from a degenerative neural disorder and is blind, memory-impaired,
and occasionally delusional). They had finally all decided to move
into assisted living, finally relieving my mom's workload, when my mom
took a fall. She has been hospitalized continuously since Christmas.
The fall didn't really do that much harm, but once she was off her feet,
she never got up again. The diagnosis was changed to Multi-System
Atrophy, but the prognosis was the same. She moved to Arbor Hospice
about a month ago. Coincidentally, nearly the entire family was there
to visit her on the day she died, including her sister, my father, me,
and my older brother. She would have been 73 years old in July, and her
50th wedding anniversary would have been in October. She lived a life
full of love and caring and creativity and will be remembered always by
her family and friends.
