I used to have a tape of the MC5 live at Freedom Hill and one of the
songs was "Farmer John" but I've never been able to find a bootleg
copy...

WABX aired it in the early 80's and we put a mono cassette deck next to it
and recorded. If Peter Werbe is still alive, he might have a copy.

On another note, somewhere there may still be a copy of my father's
signature underwriting the MC5's insurance for rental equipment. My
dad sold insurance in the big D at one time.

Too bad those awesome record stores of the past are now gone. I will ask
the folks at Wierdsville if they have a source. They might. The owners
are very cool and they get some really choice stuff. Did you see the 2
Stones records (Mono) I picked up last week? *sigh* It's a time/money
thing but music is my life. Getting two records that good for under $12
was a real score.

I dig on vinyl to the point that I bought a lathe to make the masters for the
darn things.

My lathe has an SME-300 tonearm, but I can't recall the cartridge, and my main
playback TT is a Rega P3(?) with a stock arm and a Rega Elys 2.

Hi Ken, et. al. long time no Grex. ;)

Hi goose!!!! Wowzers...

My Rega is the old Planar 3 model, probably a family relationship to the
P3 model. I'm just feeling too cheap to go with the Elys cartridge
these days -- I could spend the money on the Bias model,
roughly half the price, but I read some rather disappointing reviews
on the Bias cartridge.

So are you (goose) pressing vinyl, or just mastering one-shot copies?

Hey goose..

You feel cheap? Try having a 1971 FP with a canary tonearm and 3 color play

#46 Thought you might like that. I've had that record since 11th grade.
Bought it at Sam's Jams on 9 mile. It's funny I can tell a story about
every CD or album in my collection. I can actually remember the day I
bought the Convenience or Death record. It was sunny. I remember there
was a small independent section where I found the record. It was
wrapped very loosely with cellophane. It had a 7" flexi inside and a
nice booklet instead of the usual foldouts. I know I was there with
Eric and Paul. I was obsessed with the record. It is still one of my
favorites. Great sounding record too.

I was outside the store with Moonman when you bought it. I was eating
a 3 musketeers while Wartner and Osmulski raped Caudell behind a dumpster.
The sun was shining and the laundromat was out of Faygo.
(Let me know if any of this rings true. LOL)

I've been watching old American Bandstand youtube videos and have come
to the conclusion that Dick Clark was always hitting on Exene Cervenka.
It is creepy to watch and I wonder if he was a passive aggressive
cheauvanist just to piss off bandmembers of the early punk music acts.
Or maybe..he's just a filthy pig like Bill O'Reilly?

I always wondered WTF was Vigo Mortensen thinking..until I recognized
her sense of humor. Her and her kid are deviously funny and as an
ugly fat dude I can recognize it as a glorious equalizer.

So now I'm listening to the Orwells, kind of an Nth generation punk band
from near Chicago. Their new album is "Disgraceland." They've been on
Letterman, which you can see on Youtube (a bizarre performance where
the lead guitarist broke most of strings and the lead singer, whose
name is Mario Cuomo, looks like he's zonked out of his mind. Letterman
tries to get them reprise their song, but they can't really due to the
aforementioned broken strings). One of their songs, "Who Needs You" is
also on Youtube along with others.

I've been listening to the BBC Proms classical music festival,
which can be streamed on demand on the Internet from BBC Radio 3.
90 concerts over two months, and the festival is about half over.

This year, concerts can be replayed up to 30 days after original
air date.

When Apple refreshed its online store after yesterday's announcement
of the iPhone 6 etc, the iPod Classic was gone. The iPod classic
traced its lineage back to the original iPod in 2001, only 13 years ago.

My thinking is that the iPod Classic (capacity 160 GB) was made
obsolete by Apple's first introduction of an iPhone with a capacity of
128 GB -- Apple's first flash-based device with more than 64 GB
storage. But the 128GB iPhone 6 models cost a pretty penny.

Hard to see much of a future for music-only file playing devices,
outside of niches like Neil Young's Pono and the new Sony
extra hi-fi player.

"Farewell Apple iPod classic, We Audiophiles Will Miss You"

I never thought the iPod was an audiophile device. I've had two of
them. They both broke just after one year and the sound quality was
just okay. In the meantime, my Sony NWZS545 has lasted for many years
and the sound quality far surpasses the iPods I have owned.

Streaming music services like Spotify make mp3 players obsolete IMO. I
believe this was a smart move by Apple and I also think the Pono will
be stillborn.

It is very thin and has many features the original iPod did not have
like FM tuner, voice recorder and video playback. You can even record
the FM! I <3 it!
