No, you need not be a Grex member to use lynx, as long as you stick to the
http protocol.  Here's what I tell new members when they ask what new
privileges they have:

Non-members are forbidden all internet access except via these protocols:
finger, gopher, talk, and http.  All other internet protocols (such as
telnet, ftp, irc, and many more) are reserved for members only.  So that's
what you gain by being in the intermet group.

Did you use the web dictionary? After I got 3 on rennet I checked, and the
only choice there that fitted the clues was cygnet. 

I thought for a moment cygnet had been used before, but it hadn't - all
the target words from when the 6 letter game started are in
/a/r/c/rcurl/l.m.words
