Re resp:315: I recently had to deal with an SBC employee who needed some
specific information about our phone system at work. He kept using
telco lingo that I didn't understand, and when I'd say "I don't know
what that is" he'd just repeat the same thing over again. He was
totally incapable of communicating with anyone who wasn't familiar with
the jargon.
We've been trying to switch our phone system from KMC to SBC, but for
some reason they want a bunch of highly technical information that we
don't know and have never had to provide before.

We usually leave notices up about a week, so no, I don't think it's time to
change the motd.

That's good, since some people don't log in even weekly. But an item that
says something like
> Grex was off the DSL at 7:00pm EDT for a few minutes to try out a different
> DSL modem. The test was unsuccessful. Staff is looking into it further.
without specifying a date then becomes very confusing. Was this before or
after the May 19 loss which was also in the motd?
I admit that I'd rather have staff working on the problem than writing motd
notices, though.

The motd is now one week old and the Wednesday referred to is last Wednesday.
I have not had any problems for the past few days on grex.

Yep, if motd authors could remember, it wouldn't be a bad idea to prefix each
item with the date the item was added, e.g.:
5/19: Grex was off the DSL at 7:00pm EDT for a few minutes...

An update on progress (or lack thereof) with the replacement dsl modem might
be nice. It's starting to get worse again.
