Okey dokey, the video games conference is set up and waiting for the fair
witnesses to enter the first item.

I would request that two conferences be created:
backtalk
backtalk2
I think I'm ready to start moving backtalk to Grex in the next week. For
testing, we will set it up so that only these two conferences are accessible
through backtalk. This is because backtalk's compatibility with Picospan is
as yet untested and we don't want backtalk blowing away every conference on
the system before we get the bugs out. So these two conferences will be where
we test if backtalk gets along with Picospan. I need two conferences because
I want to be able to test linked items without having to link them to some
non-backtalk conference.
Once backtalk testing is complete, and we are ready to let it loose on all
the Grex conferences, these two test conferences could be deleted.
Fairwitnesses should be janc and srw.

Cool beans! I'm thinking that this is a special enough case that it's OK to
skip the discussion period before these conferences are created. We've
already had a multi-month discussion of Backtalk. :)

Yeah- wasn't one of the points to make backtalk only available to special
web-conf's, but not normal conf's even AFTER the bugs were worked out?

Nope. The point is to provide a more user friendly interface to conferencing,
as well as continuing to have Picospan for those who prefer to use it. It's
just another interface to the same stuff.

So far as I know, the plan is to make all conferences accessible by backtalk.
But this really isn't the place to discuss this.

selena may not remember that Backtalk will only be accessible by
people who have Grex accounts. This isn't the same issue as remmers'
plan to make conference available to any Web user, this is simply
giving Grex users another way to access the conferences.

We need to start a new item to talk about this. I don't think #332 has been
decided yet.

I don't recall any agreements at all.
Like usual, a shitload of discussion, some acquiescence, and in the end, a
staffer deciding that concensus has been reached and leaving under delusion
of same.
We *have* an item for this... Remmers created it.
(er living, not leaving, three lines up)
I'm going to go make a specific item for Backtalk, though, since no-one else
has... continue discussion there or in Remmer's item.
(or here, and ignore me completely =} )

I'd like to propose a new conference to be called "Utne Group". I don't
think it would require fairwitnessing or monitoring, but I'd be glad to
do whatever is necessary along those lines.
I belong to a monthly brunch/discussion group that formed in Ann Arbor
several years ago in response to an article in the Utne Reader magazine.
The purpose of the new conference would be to extend discussion of topics
that come up in our meetings. There are maybe 30 members of this group.
None of them are current Grexers, so far as I know, but I think most of
them would be interested in joining for the purpose of participating in
this conference.

If you have to ask what "Utne" means, does that mean you don't want to join?

Maybe the folk who don't know what Utne means are the best candidates...
"Utne Group" sounds like a "best of the ignored conferences" conference.

Is this the same Utne group that meets this Saturday at Stephen & Dynese's
house? I've been to about 4 or 5 meetings in the last year, and there is at
least one other Occasional Grexer there. I don't think I've met Nathaniel
there, so maybe there are multiple Utne fragments in town. The one I know
about doesn't seem to do brunches.
I'd be intersted in such a conference.

Re 339: Utne is Eric Utne's last name. He founded a magazine called Utne
Reader, which, if I remember right, is a liberal survey of material from a
variety of other sources.

basically dies like the Accordion conf did. Or the Marvin conf.

Re 342 - And according to the magazine's resource section, the word
utne means "far out" in Norwegian. If that helps davel. Which I'm
sure it doesn't. >8)

No Jan, that's the other group. There are apparently two that sort of
spontaneously formed. We are vaguely aware of the other one, and an
emissary from that group attended one of our functions a year or two ago,
but I don't remember his name.

etna, meanwhile, is an insurance group named after a mountain
tune is a pleasant little song
nute is how sen. gingrich's voters spell his name, due to their limited
intelligence... oh wait, isn't that congressman gingrich? =}
tuna is a delicious fish, and fish is popular in norway, where i would most
likely be labelled "utne"

I purpose a f-w's cf. It would be calld f-w. I think i would b a good
idea to have a cf lie this for the -w's to go to. Maybe share some Idea's,
or gossip!!!!
It would definitly have a password.
I would Gladly take the honors of Being this cf's f-w.
I am already a f-w of the video games cf, if you get a chance, go check
it out.
I have improved the video cf alot in just one day.
Please let me know soon, I would like to get this up and runing ASAP.
Thank you,
Kevin (z0mbie) Brunell

Are you proposing a FW-only cf?
Would a FW be considered delinquent if they didn't keep up with such a conf?
And, I mean the FWs that AREN'T FW's of the FW conf.. *head spins..*
Hell, even if it weren't FW-only.. I don't know.. I'm already seeing problems.
I mean, if someone doesn't like how you run a conf, asnd finds you not
posting, or maybe even without a participation file in this FW conf, could
that be taken up to baff as signs that the FW is unfit?
