Got a second coat of varnish on all the load-bearing surfaces of
the shelves. Got the first coat on an upright I forgot.

I had a good night at work, and I finally got to see "Cool Hand Luke". It
lived up to expectations.

I stayed up late to see my Wings--and it was worth it! :) Got to see a
fantastic penalty kill--for 6 minutes straight with 50 s of 5-on-3, Lidstrom
scored on a slapshot from center ice, and Hasek was really, really good in
the third period--even stopped a penalty shot. It feels like a long time
since the Wings have been on top of their game. Good to see them dominate
again. :)

We have tackled Jim's battery collection, due to a computer starting to lose
time. Tested and recycled any bad non-rechargeable or corroded rechargeable
small ones (the idea is to save the good cell out of the three by removing
the plastic wrap, then reconsistute these for use in cordless phones which
we have lots of but never use). Then Jim dragged out the collection of 6-12V
lead-acid and nickel-cadmium ones from dead video cameras and laptop computers
and power tools and we fixed two cordless drills and started on two cordless
screwdrivers and may take apart two IBM computer battery packs for the third
cordless drill. You can recharge a lot of things by using a bare-wire
recharger either poked carefully into the little slots or taped to the
projecting metal tabs, and a 9V will recharge a 7.2V or 12V will recharge 9.6
if you keep an eye on them. About 10-15 of the computer-size batteries so
far and that does not include the ones in the dead-laptop collection. ANyone
need a large old video camera? There is also a cordless vac to look at. In
the process of collecting the batteries I recycled a trashcan full of old
receipts and scribbled notes to Jim's self reading C000-BFFF comp.spec.....
which he said not to ask him about, since about 1992.
Jim got into the act and recycled about 10 large cardboard boxes and we can
now walk through his room to look for more batteries. Also did his computer
floppy disk collection and there is not much left except electronics
miscellany (which he wants to classify, not give to Purchase Radio).....
The next project is the bike collection and some day making enough space in
the basement to put up the 1983-purchased insulation on the walls. Does
anyone need any spray-paint in various colors? Tile grout?

re #314- no, horrdidable was not a typo <grins> It seemed to be the
best word at the time. I've seen you recommend basil steam before, and
I keep meaning to try it- I just forget when I get a really bad
migraine. That and I didn't have access to basil at work.

IHB teaching in Community Music School is absolutely a slice of heaven. I'm
saddened that today was my last slice of it in the foreseeable future.
I wanna be a teacher!

Got Palm OS tools running on my Linux box... Now I can see if I want to do
some Palm Pilot programming as a career. And the cool thing is that I spent
$50 on a big O'Reilly book... and that's it. The tools were downloaded free.
If I'd been more of a cheapskate I wouldn't have even needed the book.

Meg - take his shirt off, and *then* take his pants off. How's that? :)
IHB my baby woke me up and told me to get dressed since he wanted to take me
to lunch before work. I'm mostly happy because he waited 'til a decent hour
(1:00 PM). ;-)

My grad class is finally done for the semester, on to the summer of fun. Work
is sadly still part of the "fun" but we all need to apy the bills.

Got a ride in today. Beat my Saturday out-bound time by almost 4%,
and improved my round-trip time by about 2% despite the lack of
favorable winds. I guess I'm getting into better shape.

We just fixed out hard drive problem - one virus (on two), one corrupt io.sys
file (on one), some corrupt util files from a bad floppy disk (on one) and
the other was okay. Thanks to a chat-requester who requested a chat while
I was looking for virus checkers and said sure, the virus checkers should be
able to access the hard drives even if DOS could not. McAfee won over MonkeyB,
which encrypts the master boot record after hiding a copy somewhere. Nice
of it to keep the copy. It pays to be polite to would-be chatters.

Things are back in dealable format. Also, the birthday get-together I
organized for a friend last night went very well and was fun for all
concerned, despite my not-being-able-to-focus when planning. It was a
promotional night for mike's hard lemonade, so Nicole wound up with a free
t-shirt, flashing pins all over the back of her shirt, and temporary
tattoos all over the place. Our quest for a cute guy to apply one on
her belly button was sadly unsuccessful, but did turn up a bubble hockey
game in the back room, which was almost as good (since we got all the
teasing in anyway). It's fun to have a birthday girl with a high tolerance
because you can keep ordering shots for her. "I believe this lady needs one
slippery nipple, one buttery nipple, and quite possibly a blow job..." The
waiter's expression was priceless.
