Re #282: India's "excellent foreign policy" seems to have them on the brink
of nuclear war. Looks a lot like the U.S. vs. the Soviet Union during the
Cuban missile crisis, but on a smaller scale, really. India's foreign
policy is a lot less ambitious than the U.S.'s, which in some ways is a good
thing, but a country as large as the U.S. really can't afford to be
isolationist.

Hmmmm . . . I'll have to tell Mooncat about this . . .

We definitely can't afford to be isolationist. U.S. citizens are
abroad, and the U.S itself contains a popluation representing nearly
every country on this planet, both U.S. citizens and foreign
nationals. U.S. commerce covers the entire globe, and foreign
companies have extensive business with U.S. companies. Thus were are
very globally oriented, and that's only a tiny reason why isolationism
is not advisable, if it is even possible.

re 323 :-(
As per frogs are concern let us ask our chinese friends, china is the
highestconsumer of frogs.
During the cold war period, still I remeber the famous joke of the President
of US about USSR's nuke attack in a news conference. Now they becomes the
advocate of anti nuke war after the fall of USSR and making crocodile tears
for Indo-Pak situation. What an irony. The first Atom bomb user country is now
want to be the guardian of the world against nuke, the supporter of numerous
terrorist organization is now want to become the guardian of the world against
terrorism.

It should be noted that, population-wise, the US is not a larger country than
India.

resp:326 You *must* be joking, clees. You're being sarcastic,
right? That's not Netiquette, really ;) Editing message text in e-
mail, avoiding flames, etc. is.

What I said was hardly flamey. After a "frog of the ocean" remark
that was intended to sound philosophically profound, why wouldn't
a "salty frog" comment be seen as witty? mynxie got the joke ;>

Re #330 . . . It may be ironic, but what is your point for bringing it
up? It's not at all unheard of for a person, group of people or a
nation who have been responsible or connected to something in the past
to reverse their stance/opinion. As for nukes, it would have probably
taken longer for the US to produce had we not gotten scientists from
germany and (I believe) Russia. Those rocket scientists from Germany
would have had to turn over their findings to the Nazis had they not
left/escaped Germany when they did. Be *very* glad they didn't stay.

Yes, I think you and my dad would get along famously. You think so,
Mooncat?

The atomic scientists escaped before 1939, mostly, but the rocket scientists
were . . . recruited . . . after World War II.

The US got into non-proliferation well before the bomb fell on Hiroshima.
We started using treaties for the purpose after it became clear that others
had gotten the technology despite our best efforts. (We weren't all that
thrilled, for instance, to hear that DeGaulle had one to play with.)

Re #335 Jack Lumen: don't forget I'm not American either. There are a
lot of jokes about (tongue in cheek, so to say) I simply don't notice,
as I am not familiar enough with the language.
Forgive me, but I was not being sarcastic, and as far as I understand
flaming goes further than just email. BBS certainly applies imho.
I bet I am not the only one not noticing jokes of wit.
This can be the first cause of misunderstanding.

re #338- Oh yeah, your dad and Sarkhel would get along famously!

Altough... wasn't it your dad who, the night before you went to China,
told you not to get too proud of yourself, you werne't the only one to
go overseas- he'd been to Mexico (!?!). Didn't he say that? ;)
