expugn - please cite a source. It is neither in my Funk and Wagnalls New
College Standard, or theWebster's On-Line dictionaries.

I just found expugn (Obs.) in the New Webster's Unabridged, so

expugn 4 kentn

I wondered if the Webster's On-Line dictionary was unabridged or not. Not.
Another case of not being able to get something for nothing.

Your word isn't in there either, Rane.

from Latin repugnare

(And if you need a reference, Rane, all of the last three guesses appear in
www.m-w.com .)

DING, SHAZAMM, ETC.... aruba is "it".

impugn, oppugn and repugn are in the Webster's on-line dictionary. What were
you thinking of, Mark? This dict. is at http://www.m-w.com/netdict.htm

Funny - I responded to "impugn" the last time I was on, but it wasn't here
today. I don't recall being knocked off that time... mystery.

response 341 of 1012: Mark Unseen   Sep 3 18:43 UTC 1997

Hmmmm - I was assuming that "impugn" was wrong, because if it was right,
"smutch" should have been a 1.

Ok, by the next time I log in, I'll be thinking of a 6-letter word.

Mea culap. I miscounted smutch. And I went through each word very carefully
 - I thought. More than once. But I still don't want to automate. Let's
see, what should my penance be?

Hmmm...we get to drop all the dictionaries (in their printed form)
that we've been poring through for the last day or so, on your head?

C'mon guys, this is frigging annoying. The count is also screwed up on the
5-letter game too. Why don't you want to automate? It's quite easy and will
eliminate the need to apologize to frustrated participants.

response 345 of 1012: Mark Unseen   Sep 4 16:44 UTC 1997

I don't mind apologizing - but I'm also willing to look into automation. Where
is it and how does one use it?

response 346 of 1012: Mark Unseen   Sep 4 17:28 UTC 1997

You can use the script (program) "/a/k/e/kentn/do.lm"
You may want to browse it before you use it, if you're curious. I assure you
that it is exceedingly easy to use and reliable.

response 347 of 1012: Mark Unseen   Sep 4 18:16 UTC 1997

Or you can use the awk script I wrote and mailed you a while back, Rane; I'll
send it again.
