My impression is that even a lot of conservative Christians are becoming
uncomfortable with the way in which Pat Robertson has been acting lately.
Even the woman who co-hosts the 700 Club seems to have become adept at
glossing over some of his wackier comments.
I think if you have a position atop a religious organization for long
enough, you probably start to think you are close to God. And then you
start to feel you know what God is thinking. And then you start to speak
for God. And if, at the same time, you get old and are surrounded by people
who agree with you, you start to think your thoughts are God's thoughts.
Similar to "Poer corrupts". I wonder how the pope stays sane.

Ariel Sharon can't get a break because while Pat Robertson is saying
he's being punished by God for giving too many concessions, I'm sure
there are Palestinians who think Allah is punishing Sharon for not
givign ENOUGH concessions...

When Pat gets to the pearly gates, I hope they turn off the lights and
pretend not to be at home.

He'll die some day too, but I guess will have the pleasure of knowing that
he deserved it.

How do we know that Mr. Robertson doesn't have a direct line
to his God?

That's true.
Maybe he hides in somewhere in his conspicuously large belly.

Well, if each person gets to define his or her own personal god, then I
suppose every person has a direct line to that god. But that's sort of a
tautology.

Did you know you just used 'tautology' in a different sense than A.J. Ayer,
logician extrordinaire, used to use it?

From his perspective, he has no choice but to do what his God demands
of him. The fact that he may lose popular favor doesn't much matter,
unless, of course, his whole gig is a sideshow. So the weirder he
gets, the more I think he's an authentic believer who just isn't
into a pre-packaged and marketable god.
