re #280 yeah for pizza delivery persons, Superbowl Sunday is what
Christmas Eve is to toy stores. You deliver pizza the rest of the year
just to get the shot at making the rounds on Super Sunday.

resp:279 I thought you might have gotten the "Snooper Bowl" confused
with the "Super Bowl"

IHB it's Friday and I came into work with some cool things to get off my desk,
one of my attorneys out of the office in Court, and a voice mail from my
oldest CASA kid telling me he will be doing community service this weekend
and that he's doing good and he loves me. I'm a lucky person to be working
with him and his brothers.
I also happy because we're hosting a party on Sunday for about 35 people, as
a thank you for working a car auction. It's Dave's GTO club and we were smart
enough to have it partly catered...not too much as to be done - thank God.

I got taxes done (assuming the translation agency that always sends the 1099
a month late agrees with my figure - they are supposed to mail it Feb 1 and
they do it Mar 1). I am due a small refund on IRS and a big one from the
state because AA property taxes are so high.

Court Appointed Special Advocate
It's basically an "eyes and ears of the court", as we interact with kids in
a foster care situation, and all adults involved in the case and make an
independent report. I have three brothers (15, 14 and 10) and I'm pretty
involved in their lives - the oldest two especially, as they are placed in
a boys' school environment and my youngest is in a kinship placement.

Re 286 Then I would have to leave it - it's a volunteer gig. I did commit
for a year, though they'd like to have me for the life of the case. That
thought is daunting, as I never see an end to the case - or rather, it would
be 7-8 years...however, when I think of pulling out, I remember how much the
oldest leans on me - so a 3 year committment isn't so bad.

IHB I found a couple great cafes 1 block away that make good salads.
One is Plymouth Cafe: Every penny of profit helps improve the community by
funding Plymouth Housing Group. PHG has 12 properties and the services they
provide are healthcare & food banks, job search assistance, and help with
budgeting. (Basically transitions from homelessness.)
see: http://www.plymouthhousing.org
The other cafe is Organic to Go: All the food is fresh, organic, and tasty.
This business is based in Seattle and they make awesome salads TO GO.

re #289
That sounds like a lifetime commitment sort of thing.
I was listening to the Bob Rivers Show this morning and they were talking
about sponsoring kids in Africa through WorldVision. A listener called in
and said they did it and wrote letters back and forth with the kid for 8 years
til one day they got a letter from WorldVision saying they didn't need
sponsorship anymore. They didn't say why: good or bad.

I think with my oldest, it is a lifetime committment, and I'm fine with it.
The middle is still way too (IMO, unhealthily) tied to his mom, and the
youngest is very tied to his aunt.

clean) and Dad is in jail on drug possession charges. One aunt has youngest,
other family members not great placements.

Re 296, Hey, Staci naps and cross-stitches and she is only 18. Sometimes when
you have a full life you need to nap. Studies have shown that a power nap
in the afternoon makes for a more productive person. Other studies have shown
that stitching lowers the blood pressure and stress levels. I find those to
be advantageous at any age.

I feel like showing off, the below link is to one of my finished pieces:

Cross-stitching, it's not just samplers anymore... A woman in Texas just
spent 10 years working on a Sistene Chapel stitch project that she
designed herself.

It's a Dimensions gold kit titled "Summer Stroll." It's more Victorian
than Edwardian (P&P era).
