"jerk"?
It's not fair to assume that everybody looking for csex are jerks.
If we had a program "bigtits" with dialogue such as:
brighn: "Um, hi, haven't seen you before. How are you?"
bigtits: "Hi, cute stuff. I'm horny and I need some loving."
brigh: "Whoa. Geez, you come on strong, don't you?"
bigtits: "Please, I need you now. Give it to me."
&c &c
I don't think it's fair to characterize the person who goes on to have csex
with bigtits as a "jerk" who deserves to have his !tel log (which he assumed
to be private) mailed to baff. Honestly. (Not that it actually *would* mail
to baff... just the threat of it is obnoxious enough.)
Some of us are failing to distinguish between consentual cybersex -- which
is perfectly acceptable, and not the point of any of these filter discussions
-- and non-consentual cybersex. "jerk"? Harumph.
(I'll write the dialogue for bigtits, btw, if anyone is seriously interested.
I've had enough csex in my day to have developped a wide range of generic
responses for when I personally am too busy to read what the person just wrote
and am only paying half a degree of attention. =} (I'm only saying that now
because I don't csex but one person anymore, and I wouldn't do that to her.)
At any rate I wouldn't want to program it, don't know how. ={ )

Yer right, "jerk" is too strong...

OTOH, "twit" is apt and terse - nothing left to say about them then ;-)

Brighn, are you familiar with the Eliza program?

Eliz is a nice name. What would you like to talk about, Eliza?

bwt, tsty (and I apologize for for days late response):
I DO immediately send messagessaying "STOP NTALKING
ME NOW, I DO NOT WANT TO TLK" or "PLEASE stop ntalking me NOW!"
it never seems to work. I do the same thing when people
send me tells and writes. of course, when they don't stop
writing me, I usually hit !mesg N and then !mesg y (same for
talks... after about giving them 2 minutes to stop)
still i shouldn't have to... because alort off them
oops ANDS a lot of them start again immediatelty antywat

#281 You seem disturbed. What is bothering you?
tsty
response 284 of 315: Mark Unseen   Jul 22 05:32 UTC 1996

agreeing to a word change is interpreted as "disturbed?"
Uhhhhhhh, i don't think so.

jenna - the talk/ytalk/ntalk/xtalk stuff is daemon-driven, which i see
as a particular problem in software. the issue was raised in another
item but it has had no responses as of my last visit.

response 285 of 315: Mark Unseen   Jul 22 06:55 UTC 1996

yeah... demons ;} well I dunno. when i do !mesg N
to cut it off and the person sarts doing it again 2 minutes
later, i don't think that's software driven

re: 283 & 284

Adbarr is practicing to climb into the little box and earn his
fees as "Eliza" - an automaton that was written as a basic-shrink program..

Eliza always had a really annoying habit of turning everything into a
question and (much like a real shrink) it made the regular users more
crazy than they were when they started a session.. This is, of course,
perfect for "Hotchat Scarecrows" ;->

Yes! An Eliza program like that would be PERFECT for those twits! Hell,
while we are at it, why don't we just edit talkd so if you are sent a
ntalk request from somebody who is logging in from an Indian University
domain, it would give us this message:
HotChatter Detected. Re-route to Eliza? Y/y:

Yuck. I sincerely hope you're not serious about that. Talk about
racial/ethnic stereotyping...

response 291 of 315: Mark Unseen   Jul 22 23:09 UTC 1996

Yes, Mary, I'm familiar with Eliza.
At least I think so -- there's a series of stock responses,
in this case something like, "Um-hm" "Oh yes, baby, that's it" "I like it
there" and so on, and no matter what the user types, one of the stock answers
pops out.

response 292 of 315: Mark Unseen   Jul 22 23:34 UTC 1996

Re: 290

I am not serious about that. But, a lot of the Indian users to stereotype
all American women on the internet as people who want c-sex.
scg
response 293 of 315: Mark Unseen   Jul 23 04:26 UTC 1996

re 292:
I'm sure tehre probably are some American women who want c-sex, just
as there are some Indian men who assume all American women want c-sex. Both
are steriotypes, and like every steriotype have lots of exceptions. It's when
people assume that an entire group of people fit their steriotype that a lot
of problems happen.

re 291:
Eliza did a lot more than just returning a stock response that had
nothing to do with what the user typed. Eliza listened to key words, and
responded based on that. For example, "I killed my brother yesterday" would
result in "please tell me more about your family." Occasionally, Eliza would
even refer back to previous parts of the conversation.

It'd also do things like answer "I hate lemon in my tea" with "Why do you hate
lemon in yout tea?" It could quote things you say back to you, doing simple
transfomrations on it.
brighn
response 295 of 315: Mark Unseen   Jul 23 06:42 UTC 1996

Well, yeah, but i wasn't sure we were going to get that sophisticated with
it... I just meant that I'd write the dialogue if someone else wanted to do
the code.
"Tell me more about your raging hard-on" sounds a little silly.
Besides, at least one Grexer has admitted to me that many of her csex sessions
involved her periodically switching back into the window she was allegedly
having sex in, typing a grunt or a groan, and flipping back out, and the guys
were, to her knowledge, never the wiser.

My favoirite Eliza exchange:

Eliza: YOU'RE NOT REALLY TALKING ABOUT ME, ARE YOU?
User: I AM.
Eliza: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN?
User: AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.
Eliza: I'M NOT SURE I UNDERSTAND YOU FULLY.
