agreed, space is not an issue, but grex not cleaning up its old/dead
confs is, and one way to do that is to make a habit of trying to
recycle some of them when it is realistic to match with some thing new.

Little thing about computers that differs from real life:
If you destroy an old conference, you can build a new one that is just as
good, and it really isn't any more work than cleaning up and renaming the old
one. Conferences aren't like real-world buildings, where it makes sense to
renovate a few times. Conferences are like real-world fruit pies, where it
doesn't make sense to convert an old cherry pie into a blueberry pie instead
of just baking a new blueberry pie.

Besides, this is cf proposals, not cf policy proposals.

We have a new membership chair. Let's give him slack to do the job the way
he thinks it should be done before we start drowning him in our opinions about
how the job should be done. If the conference is going to be useful to him,
let him have it.

I would like to formally request a science cf be established.
(this is for the folks in agora who dont know where this item is.)

I think this is a great idea. I wanted to do this years ago, but when I found
science=melvin, I went away (disappointed). Especially recently, there has
been a surge in interest in science topics on Grex. I think it would justify
a conference easily, and I would even be willing to co-FW.

To repeat what I said about this in agora:
Lynne and I had been talking about doing this for at least a year, without
ever getting around to actually doing it. If someone else is willing to do
it, go for it -- I think it would be great to have a science conference here.
I asked the fw of the Melvin conference (carson) if it would be Ok to
liberate the name "science" for a real science conference if one were
created. He said it would be fine with him. Cool!

maybe the melvin conf and the new science conf should be merged into
one and the same...rename Melvin the Science conference.

or maybe they should continue on as individual conferences to develop their
own unique characters and flavours. If only one is needed then the one that
best meets the needs of the people who are interetsed will thrive.

Right. In fact, he so indicated in the Agora item that he
entered about this. Anyhow, I think the conference is a
good idea.

Okay, I went spelunking and found this item. I volunteer. Does
anyone need to write a charter for the conference, or similar
statement of purpose and principles?

I would like a science conference, as long as it connects to philosophy,
mathematics, religion, and composting.

If you wish it to connect, and enter items, it will do so, I am sure.
Knowing the people on this system, I would say we could probably support one
item just discussing whether or not mathematics is an appropriate topic for
a science conf. Tha's OK, though, It's an interesting question.
Philosophy, religion, and composting are connected more obviously, perhaps.
