response 278 of 512: Mark Unseen   May 2 19:31 UTC 2002

mutt is a unix mail program, very configurable to do snazzy things. a unix
geek i know packaged up a pre-configured tarball of it for me and i felt like
a gay man with a big set of boobs in my face.

Jim has finally gone all electric (or will do so when the gas company arrives
tomorrow to remove the meter). The only gas appliance left (water heater)
left yesterday and he has cold water running again. No more $8/month bills
to read the meter, and no more leaving endless unanswered messages asking them
to automatically withdraw not from the last but from the present bank account.
Even without a special electric rate, electric hot water will be cheaper.

I would like to announce that since this is the Announcements item,
everyone should begin their responses with the phrase "I would like
to announce that".

I hate both eudora and outlook. They both needa lot more intelligence than
the normal user is willing to expend. Outlook Express is the only way to go.

JWLTA that his water heater is not yet in because of 'crossover' - something
related to the shower mixing valve that caused water to flow all over the
place when he cut the cold water line because the water was coming from the
hot water line. He has mopped up and this time is turning off the hot water
line (which has cold water in it) before gluing. This was all supposed to
be glued and ready two days ago. The housemate has been warned to take
showers while visiting friends. The underground conduit was not 5' too long
but 5' too short so it is not done yet either. IWLTA that Stadium Hardware
also carries grey electrical conduit, as we discovered AFTER walking outto
Wyandotte and learning that someone bought all 11 of the piece we needed.
Wyandotte did not know that Stadium Hardware carries the conduit.
We will soon be saving $8/month on meter-reading fees.

I would like to announce that a reason to use "I would like to
announce" (or "IWLTA") is to remind people what item this is.
They have a tendency to forget.

I have been suspended for the next four games because of an offhand
comment I made about Coach Preseau that turned into a shouting match.
At this point, I am not sure if I want to return to the team.

As usually, I offer my professional engineering and software services as
a consultant or contractor. Anybody got a house to paint? Or big pile
of stuff to clear out of the house/garage/yard?

Jim tightened all the fittings and his hot water line no longer leaks, and
he got much of the rust out of the heater and it does not leak either, and
at least the top element heats and draws 16 amps on his 20 amp line and fuse
and all he has to do now is put in the timer and the meter (he forgot) and
replace the pipe insulation and devise some insulation for the tank (out of
duct insulation - the tank came with only 1") and then go to sleep so he can
get up early as he PROMISED to work on my house tomorrow. Promises, promises.

It takes an hour to replace a rake handle?
keesan
response 299 of 512: Mark Unseen   May 5 22:07 UTC 2002

It does if the handle and rake head do not exactly match and you have to make
the hole in the end of the handle larger. I left after half an hour - it may
not have taken a whole hour. We had a rake with half a handle, and one with
half a head. The head is held on by a sort of tapered sleeve which has to
fit over the tapered handle. There is also a narrower part in the handle
about a foot from the head, not where you would hold it during raking.
Perhaps you are supposed to grasp it there when holding the rake with head
up and handle down while posing for paintings or photographs. Both handles
were made this way. By handle maybe I mean pole - the wooden piece.
