Tie fighters don't enter the atmosphere.

Yes they do. In addition to various literature on the subject, they were
clearly in Bespin's atmosphere in Empire.
*this* is solid drift.

I saw Imperial StarDestroyers being loaded with troops on the ground in this
movie. Apparently just about anything goes regarding what can enter the
atmosphere.

My stepson (turning 11 on Friday) says he wants a Lego set that's for a
Slave ship, but it's not Jengo Fett's Slave 1 set. Does anyone have
any idea what he might mean? I'll ask him tonight; hopefully he can
explain it to me better.

OK, in Empire Strikes back, Boba Fett loads the carbonized Han Solo into a
ship that looks like an iron. Lego issued a model of this that they called
"Slave 1" (Lego set 7144), list price $19.99. This set has now been
discontinued, but is still available in many places. www.kbtoys.com has it
for $14.99.
I haven't seen Episode II yet, but apparantly the same spacecraft plays an
important role in the story. The original lego model was undersized, with
room for Boba Fett and a frozen Han, if neither of them exhaled. I'm presuming
the new movie shows things going on inside the ship that make this more
obviously wrong than it was before. So after Lego discontinued "Slave 1"
they issued a new set, "Jango Fett's Slave 1" (set 7153), list price $49.99.
This is a fancier, roomier model. Being a new release, it hasn't been
discounted much yet. The lowest price is $48.88 at Walmart.com.
There are no other "slave ship" sets. There is another set with bounty
hunter ships, set 7133, "Bounty Hunter Pursuit", list price $29.99.
There is a model of Jango Fett, set 8011, list price $29.99 ($24.99 at
mastermindtoys.com).
Hope that helps. Good sites to look at: www.fbtb.net and shop.lego.com

Wow. Now *that* is an answer!
Unfortunately I need to get it today. Instead of the $14.99 "Slave 1"
that he actually wanted, I got "Jango Fett's Slave 1" which retails for
$50, then found (A few days ago) that he's already getting that from
someone else. Hopefully I'll be able to return it; if I can't I'll
probably donate it to the next Grex auction. I'll get him "Republic
Gunship" which goes for $90 in stores, instead.
Maybe I'll get the "Slave 1" for him for Christmas or something.

#256> Ep 2 does have some internal shots of Slave I, but not so many that you
could really tell how big it is. The clues are roughly the same as in Ep 4,
with external shots of a Fett (Jengo or Boba, respectively) entering the ship.

Does anyone know when and where "Rabbit Proof Fence" opens in SE Michigan this
summer? My daughter-in-law is in it and I'd like to see it soon after it
opens.

Leslie and I are just back from seeing "Episode II." Bleah.
How *tedious.* It's hard to reach back 19 years to compare
the yawns of tonight with the misery of "Return of the Jedi,"
and honestly I'm not sure that's an exercise worth pursuing.
I really enjoyed "Episode I;" I saw it three times in the theaters
and a few more times on video. But it looks like "Episode II"
may be the first Star Wars movie which I don't see twice in
the theater.
The coming attractions trailer for "Minority Report" was the
highlight of the evening.
More later, perhaps.

I like the idea that in Episode II, Jar Jar is one with
a weak mind, and can be Jedi/DarkSide controled.

He's not Dark Side "controlled," though. He's duped. There's a huge
difference. (Compare the scene where he's convinced to empower Palpatine,
where people say very leading things around him about what Amidala would do
in his position, and he thinks about it, to the actual Force power in use in
the bar, where the guy doesn't even think about it, he just repeats back
everything Obiwan says, changing only the pronouns.)

I don't think I'm giving anything away. I've indicated that Jar Jar is
Amidala's proxy at some point, and that he's tricked into empowering
Palpatine. Neither of those should be at all unpredictable (actually, little
of the movie is unpredictable, which might be the beef some people have with
it).
*shrug* If people keep making snotty comments about Ep 2, I may have to go
back to my tirades about Crouching Dragon, Stupid Tiger.

I also mentioned the guy in the bar, but that's as brief as the "These aren't
the droids we're looking for" stormtroopers, and not at all relevant to
anything.

the audition is out on video/dvd now - it's a great jajanese(i think) film
that IIRC "...where the director makes a breach of contract with the audience
that hitchcock and king could only dream about". not for those who get queasy
at violence etc. i thought it was great. i saw it in the theater and many
walked out and most were at least slightly disturbed. highly recommended.

I saw _The Sum of All Fears_ this weekend. It is very standard but
adequate summer entertainment. There are lots of cool explosions and
stuff. Put former movies with "Jack Ryan" out of your mind thought
because Ben Aflack's Ryan is very different than say Harrison Ford's.
He wasnt bad but it was enough different that the only real similarity
between the characters is the name and, of course, the employer.

#271's comments about previous Ryan movies increases my desire to see this
one, but I'm still leaning towards cable. I tried to watch one of the Ford
ones, but found it to be a jumbled mess of a plot, which I hardly blame on
Ford (he does what he can, but he can only work with what he's given).

After all I've heard about "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones," I think
I'm going to wait for it to come out on cable. I just can't summon up
any interest after reading the reviews and having been so disappointed
by Episode I.
