jimbob
response 27 of 59: Mark Unseen   Mar 30 08:47 UTC 1994

it has to do with the fact that you have no nose...

ya know...to think of it i have never heard any "real" punk, ever...punk
is basicly grunge or vise versa but i'ld like to know, what makes punk?
Lyrics, Music, or Clothing?

I think punk is what you want it to be. if you think something is punk then
is (to you), even though some people might disagree. its your opinion as to
what you want to categorize something under. I mean Elvis might be punk to
some people, its just theyre opinion.

For lack of a better item for this...

I have a cousin who goes to high school in Oregon. She says there she likes
to go "moesh" dancing, which she says the closest thing we have here is
"slam dancing" or "doing your own thing". Can anyone expand on this?

I never said that we shouldn't get together unless we were punk. I said that
since I'm writin MOST (Dylan's started writing songs) and I like to write punk
it's the easiest.
r35: all I have to say to you is: Betray, Wating Room, and Letter Bomb.

hllo. i didn't read to the end so i mite be breakin in somewere
weird, but hey. this punk rock/grunge/alternative shit this is way
out of hand, and it's pissing hte hell out of me. not only did it kill alot of
bands i liked, and alot i didn't like, it gave a bad name for anone
playing rock and rool that dosen't suck! People ask me 'what kinda music do
you play?' and i cant say 'punk rock' and i wanna say 'grunge' cuz
thats what it soulds like, and theni say 'rock' nd it's not
aeroshit-aerosmith, not 'hardcore', what the fuck is it?????? the whole
corperate takeover n seattle, and everywhere, was a terrible blow to
anyone trying to establish themselves because before you could
help people know who you were by saying what you were, but now these words:
-punk(rock)
-hardcore
-grunge
bring about feeling of terror, because for the last couple years they
have ment two things 1)MONEY AND 2)BULLSHIT!!! The few real bands who were
sucessful before the nirvana/pearl jam/craze (such as those two)
were turned into total crap by the corperate explosion of punkish music.
then came the copycats, who were total shit, and then all of
underground rock and punk rock got tosed into a trash can, all sellouts,
and the few new bands and the few old ones who still sisn't give in
either got lot in tyhe mess or got so famous they went bad. I liked
nirvana untill....never. i always liked them, and they never failed
to uphold a stansard of quality. i don't blame kurt, i probably would have
done the same thing. punk rock will never be able to 'rule the earth'
because it is mixed up and surrounded by contraversy. the on;y way the music
we enjoy can survive is fopr it's players and listners
must abandon labels and learn what the music is..not what it's called.

A friend told me this is the definition of punk:
doing whatever you want, whenever you want, and not caring about the conse-
quences.
