The concept of a marketing campaign sounds gross to me. Would
someone explain what it was, (is), in relation to the group?

Yep.. The album is called "Off the Deep End" and the "Smells Like
Nirvana" video is pretty funny the first couple of times..

Apparently Al called up Kurdt and Chris and asked if they'd mind
if he did a parody. They asked if it was going to be a whole food thing.
He said, no, he was just going to make fun of how nobody could understand
the lyrics. They said cool.
I guess they didn't want another "eat it".

And there's always "Spam", Al's REM parody.

"Dare to be stupid" is my favorite (notice how the best songs are all on
the dare to be stupid album)

was "One More Minute" on the _Dare To Be Stupid_ album? (maybe we should
start a Weird Al item.)

Heh. Nirvana sell-out department: ICE reports that the back cover art
of the IN UTERO album will be revised, and the song "Rape Me" retitled,
so that Wal-Mart will accept the album for sale. This will be a
special "rack-jobbers'" edition. An estimated 200,000 sales are at
stake.

(Earlier, Wal-Mart had claimed there was no demand for the album, despite
its residence in the Billboard Top Ten.)

Is Nirvana selling out, or are they craftily playing the marketing game
so they can reach the millions of kids who have no place except Wal-Mart
(and its equivalents) to buy albums? (I can sympathize; the vast
majority of my high-school era LPs came from the Zayre's and Best
chain stores.)

is this something that Nirvana has any control over, or is it more of
the corporate shell game? it's not like Nirvana needs to sell any more
albums for themselves.

Kurt was a very interesting person, contrary to popular belief. The reason
he used heroine as much as he did is because he had a very painful disease
he inherited from his mother, and it seemed to be the only thing that helped
him. (Plus he was addicted to it, so that didn't help.).
