"What about the dream?
 What dream?
Slide the bone, vary the tone
Slide the bone and make a didjeribone
It goes a long way back before the saxaphone!"

Let me see what I called those files.

In the directory /home/n8rxs there are:

files -l

Ok:
To just read one and do a text capture you'd do "type /home/n8rxs/circle.txt"
for example to read about circular breathing.

Any trick to getting rid of accumulated spit, or do you just let it run down
the didj and out the bottom?

response 30 of 52: Mark Unseen   Feb 21 06:01 UTC 1996

I know what you mean, though I've never had enough moister to drip out the
other end.

I have run some rubbing alchol and a towel down mine on such occasions. I
don't recommend Lysol, a truly wierd taste treat.

You wouldn't, by any chance, go to CHS, would you? I know we have *a*
didjeridooer (didjeridooist? didjeridooitizer?) there, but I never made the
connection...

response 32 of 52: Mark Unseen   Mar 4 03:08 UTC 1996

I don't go to CHS, I'm a private citizen. You can check out my .plan with a
!finger n8rxs and that's pretty good info.

private citizen? perhaps we're using teh same acronym for different things?

response 34 of 52: Mark Unseen   Mar 6 06:05 UTC 1996

I suspect CHS is a school? I was using the term private citizen as a joke.

I finally got round to putting all the didjeridoo files I got from the web
onto my own web page here. Do the !lynx thing and look for n8rxs. There's
also a link to the site it all came from.

So far as I know, Hubert the Cow does not play the didjeridoo.

Does your page include a sound-bite?
omni
response 39 of 52: Mark Unseen   Mar 12 19:41 UTC 1996

No need. Just imagine a cow farting, and you have hear it. ;)
n8rxs
response 40 of 52: Mark Unseen   Mar 13 00:22 UTC 1996

You'd have to go to the web page I've a link to to get a sound-bite. There
should be several. Most definitely pictures.

Somehow I don't think a cow can get quite the range and variation one can
get out of a didjeridoo when played properly. When not played properly, I
think the cow might win. .l

I used my didj at a drum circle thingy last night. It wasn't loud enough,
so I'm now experimenting with one made out of 2" PVC. It's still 4 feet long,
although the way the size adapter for the mouthpiece is set up, I can add a
short piece of 1.5" and make it longer.

Add a pickup and plug it into the sound system.
scott
response 43 of 52: Mark Unseen   Apr 6 21:18 UTC 1996

Well, there is no sound system... Although I could take my bass guitar amp,
and ... ;)

A few years ago, I saw someone playing over on State street in A2. He was
blowing into a 'corner' made of some plywood sheets, about a foot and a
half square. Acted like a resonator, and upped the volumn quite a bit,
and was very portable.
scott
response 45 of 52: Mark Unseen   Apr 7 22:16 UTC 1996

I've thought of that, but to get the best sound I'd really have to carry my
own bathtub. ;)

(although the corner idea sounds nicely portable)

response 46 of 52: Mark Unseen   Apr 13 02:29 UTC 1996

In my readings I find that the aborigines sometime dug small holes to use as
resonators. I've tried trash cans, table tops, etc and this does seem to help.
'Course your average aboriginal player isn't trying to be heard over conga
drums.

The good news is that moving to a 2" pipe will definitely change things. Even
if you can't be heard you can sure feel it from a distance when playing those.
I think a 2" with an adaptor is a good option. Playing a wide pipe like that
with no adaptor, as I did when I started, takes too much wind.

I'm hoping to receive several lengths of bambo the end of this month. Let you
know how that sounds.

When and where does this drum circle meet? I've read about one, but it said
just drums so I didn't go. If they'll put up with my didj playing I'd like to
try it at least once.

scott
response 47 of 52: Mark Unseen   Apr 13 13:19 UTC 1996

The 2" pipe does make a big difference. The good news is that there is a
handy adapter that will couple with a 1.5" pipe, making it easy to connect
to existing stuff. I'm now getting a decent sound out of it, too.

The drum circle plays Friday nights, 8-10, in the Gallup Park building.
There's a suggested $2 contribution. This is listed in the observer. Yeah,
you can play the didj there, people sometimes play little penny whistles, etc.
Take some water, I found my mouth drying out and that made playing really
hard.
n8rxs
response 48 of 52: Mark Unseen   Apr 14 04:26 UTC 1996

I may have to make one. If they play penny whistles, I bet they'd love my
trick of playing two with my nose.

Good to hear the 2" works. I've been meaning to use the adapator set up to
make a variable length didj. Playing a 2" pipe without is weird anyway, you
have to stuff your whole face in to make a good seal.

Now THAT would be interesting. ;)
