dpc's home is fine. New Center is not. I think we should eat first, then talk.
Or eat and talk. The more informality the better. My reasons for not wanting
to meet at the New Center are grounded in history, and my love for a good
grilled hot-dog. Any of rickyb's suggestions are fine too. Some kind of
pot-luck seems to be in order. Don't forget the vegitarian element here.
I speak only for myself, here.

Ah, I see, adbarr's objection to the New Center was to force
dpc to feed us all. Great plan, Arnold! Thanks!

Meeting in somebody's home sounds fine to me. It's probably best not to meet
somewhere where anybody who comes has to pay for food, especially expensive
food. We had a WIN meeting in one of those restraunt meeting rooms once, and
I remember a lot of people not being too happy about it.

Dave, I attended an Arbornet meeting at your house a few years
ago, on a warm summer afternoon. No offense, but it got quite
hot, there were 20 or so bodies that depleted the oxygen, and
as a result I got a splitting headache and had to leave after
a couple of hours. Unless you have air conditioning now, it
seems to me that your house presents similar problems to the
NEW Center.

Yes, John, we now have air conditioning. Tsty made it possible for us
to install in our old house. 8-)

I have no idea if I can attend, but two factors that I imagine would
help me & others is in terms of allergies: are we talking "no smoking"?
How about "cats"? Vegetarian quality food is also likely to help.

I heard recently that amer's is now "no smoking".

Wow -- they used to reek. Hey, I wonder if Amers' basement would work for
Grex board meetings in the future?

Didn't we used to meet there? I liked that location.

wow...the grex, m-net and hvcn boards and staffs all in one room! The
middle east peace talks were probably easier to organize :)

Just don't anybody open any packages in _that_ room, heh.

What are we planning on discussing at this meeting. So far, we've managed
to get into an argument about where to meet, and that's about it. If we can't
agree on where to meet, I'd hate to see us try to figure out somethign that
matters.

response 40 of 229: Mark Unseen   Jun 19 22:37 UTC 1996

Don't panic. The great majority of people aren't very worried over where to
meet. Though I too am curious about what we hope to accomplish. Yes, Grex
and M-Net both need all the help we can get, but it's not obvious to me that
we have all that much to offer each other.

response 41 of 229: Mark Unseen   Jun 19 23:05 UTC 1996

I have to agree with janc, Grex has little to offer anyone
at this point, except a ridiculous demand for bandwidth...

response 42 of 229: Mark Unseen   Jun 19 23:12 UTC 1996

well one thing taht could be discussed is getting m-net to agree that if
they fold, there can be a paperwork merger between cyberspace and
arbornet so grex can get arbornet's tax-exempt status. Maybe m-net can
draw up a last will and testament leaving some of the machinery to grex
as well, if they wont be needing it.

more pracitcallyt, maybe there is merit given the current drastic
situations, for the three groups to consider becoming roommates. With
three groups paying rent, it would make things cheaper if a place could
be found. There's a lot of downside to this, but under the circumstances
it may not matter.

Why would we want Arbornet's educational tax exempt status. It sounds to me
as if it causes more problems than it solved for them.

response 44 of 229: Mark Unseen   Jun 20 01:36 UTC 1996

I don't think we want a merger. Too much different. Of course, people who
like to argue about fine points would have a field day as we attempt to absorb
two sets of bylaws, etc. ;)

Grabbing Arbornet's hardware and software would be nice, but stay
away from that mission. They barely knicked it and it was still a major
contributor to their downfall.

response 46 of 229: Mark Unseen   Jun 20 03:59 UTC 1996

I think the fall of M-Net is probably far, far away. It tends to bounce.

I think interest in a merger is approximately at zero over here. Why turn
two systems into one system? That's backward. We need more, not less.

response 47 of 229: Mark Unseen   Jun 20 06:51 UTC 1996

I don't see any reason to consider a merger, but just to respond to
#42 - each corporation has to separately qualify for tax-exemption.
If two tax exempt corporations merged, that would be a *new*, third,
corporation, and it would have to seek its own exempt status. Sorry,
tax exempt status is not a purchasable commodity.
