One of the big packages yet to do is the security system for passwords.
A number of programs will have to be rebuilt yet again once that is installed.
Just installing it is a lot of work. Picospan and newuser are also
unbegun as yet. There's probably a lot more. We'll try to get a more
complete list of things to do at the staff meeting.

Any chance of killing the one-year password forcechange when it
gets installed over there? <Just a question!! Eep!>

No, because that would involve modifying code. At this point,
we're busy with just getting everything moved over and compiled.
Marcus has started work his stuff, but he is sick right now,
hence his lack of presence here lately.

Don't worry, selena, they (usually) don't bite for just asking a question...

That's why I said "usually"; every rule of thumb has exceptions.

Actually, that was a generalization of an actual rule of thumb: "Every rule
of thumb is correct about 4 times out of 5... including this one."

#34 is the corollary to "No generalization is worth a damn, . . including
this one." I guess. Maybe a derivative?

Probably of related lineage (bothe born of experience), but not likely that
either is a direct descendant of the other, imho.

Item 109 (meeting minutes) has an update. The Sun 4 is predicted
to be moved to the dungeon in two and a half weeks. Sounds like
it's still on track for the "two months" estimate given a month ago.
(Go staff! Go staff! Woo woo woo! :-)

Would it make sense when we move to the Sun-4 to change /home over to
subdirectories (e.g. /home/nestene becomes /home/ne/nestene) as was
discussed in a previous coop?

Probably. (Actually, /home/nestene would become /home/n/e/nestene).
It's on the to-do list, though, unlike other updates, it's not critical
to get to this one before we switch to the Sun 4.
Though, come to think of it, the only reason why we haven't done this on the
Sun 3 is the disk problem: it would be pretty awful if /home/n went away,
taking all home directories that start with "n" with it. I'd like to see that
the disk problem is cured on the Sun 4 before we switched over to the multi-
level home directories system.

Various staffers have continued to install software. More is needed.
I am working on the Kernel blocks, after Marcus steered me to
some kernel code. Progress is happening. Two weeks is not enough time.
The conversion to a hierarchical home will be done *after* we go to the
Sun-4 and things settle a bit. This move has been delayed 15 months so
far.

From _The Money Pit_:
Tom Hanks to contractor: So how long do you think all this work will take?
Contractor: 2 weeks.
Tom Hanks: 2 weeks? Wow! Thats amazing!
Contractor<under breath>: Amazing? It'l be a f***in miracle!
It becomes a running joke. Throughout the movie, as days turn into weeks,
and weeks into months, Hanks continues to ask "how long?" and the contractor
continues to answer "2 weeks".
