A rather esoteric process, steeped in a long held tradition going back a
bygone era.

Apparently by being one of the original group here, perhaps.

Yes, you are on the immortals list due to being one of the 12 founders.

I'm happy because this is the last working day of the year. I'm
looking forward to the three day weekend and for it to be 2006. 2005
has been a long, hard year. I'm ready for it be over with! :)

I'm happy because the office is practically empty so I took a long lunch on
the waterfront.

I have been able to bike around for the past few days without having to avoid
much ice and snow, or wear two pairs of gloves.

Is there still much snow on the ground in MI? I know there HAD been earlier
in the month but then rumor has it that y'all had some thunderstorms that may
have washed at least some of the snow away.

I'm in North Muskegon and most of the snow melted before I got home; the rest
has been melting since.
With any luck tonight's cold rain might turn to snow before morning -- I'd
like to see a little of the fresh stuff before I return to Ketchikan.

It looks like I got my wish -- this evening's rain has turned to snow.
We've got a light dusting on everything at the moment and with any luck
it'll stick around 'til morning.

I was pointing out that snow may be pretty but snow and ice cause problems.

Happiness is finally getting off two pairs of wet socks and soaking wet shoes
after shoveling slush off my walk, from the sidewalk to the front door, from
the sidewalk through a dirt area to my back door and the neighbor's back door,
and the two neighboring sidewalks (one vacant house, one person with sore
neck). Rain removes itself.
The slush looks a lot like snow cones but is not as colorful.

The owner (!) of a small ISP that covers a lot of small towns in the US,
called usnetizen.com, wrote me himself when I asked if my 83-year-old friend
in upstate Vermont, to whom we brought a computer and whom we signed up for
the ISP's $6/month 30 hour service, could suspend her service for two months
while taking care of her sick daughter in another state, but keep the few
emails in her account and maybe use it once a week at a public library.
He said they would put her account on hold, let her continue to use the email
account, and to phone or email when she got home and they would reinstate
service, at no charge, and give her a free three months (because they messed
up her email account once for a couple of weeks - they would have fixed it
sooner but she thought she had broken it herself). No charge for the two
months that she is only using the email account.
Can you imagine earthlink's owner writing, much less making this offer?
They also, when Opera did not work properly with either of their email
programs, steered us to some generic webmail site that did work (and then
fixed their webmail program). I must have spent an hour on the phone with
their helpful support people, who apparently also spent that much time with
my friend determining that her email account was broken. Ever try to talk
software with someone who types with two fingers and needs someone supervising
when she writes email?
