khamsun and tod seem to be Imperialists. Lets get a foothold in this
part of the world and conquer this country and that. They must see
Bush like Alexander the Great or something. Imperialist sentiments do
nothing other than get us resented in the rest of the world. Lets turn
the rest of the world into the American Empire, full of shiny faces and
democracies right? Lets not be naive enough to think that everyone in
the world actually wants that. People want to control their own
destinies. Democracy works in some areas, in others it does not.
Thats just reality.

Re #20:
well, there's morality and there's politics.
2000 dead is very little for a war.The benefits the White House can
expect in return can be worth it from their point of view, I guess,
which isn't granted at all.For the 50s, 60s and 70s it was wrong, 'cause
wars in Korea and Vietnam did nothing for containing communism...
I mean, contrary to many others governements with politicians driven by
social goals, USA is leaded mainly by big business folk. That's OK,
that's just about market and business. Then there are way to invest
markets, secure resources, etc.War is one of the tools.
Ok, now you need your fellows to feel happy at home. You just tell it's
about "national security reasons", or because nazism, or communism, or
because the devil hidden in the darkness...

"I don't think you believe in action, period."
There are many kinds of action that don't have to involve the
military. Spreading the word about human rights and democracy are
actions that need not be taken with tanks and guns. We can help fight
the war on AIDS in Africa without tanks and guns. We can do a lot of
things without tanks and guns. So I refute your assertion that I am
against "action", simply because I don't think our foreign policy need
be simply a series of military invasions.
you may be comfortable living in a military state. you might even
prefer it if we had military generals ruling all aspects of our lives.
I am not.

I never said I condoned the invasion of Iraq. I've simply stated my opinion
on present conditions. Spreading the word isn't going to help Iraqis from
becoming a Shiite dictatorship. The USA can turn its back like richard wants
or it can help the civilians stand their ground while they try to implement
a framework of governance.
I'm sorry a military presence is the only way to go about this effectively
but its reality. I'm sure richard would prefer the USA to send flowerchildren
to Iraq to stick daisies in the barrels of Syrian AK-47's but all that will
do is clutter al Jazeera's airwaves with decapitations.

tod maybe you've forgotten but we didn't go to war in Iraq because we
were SO concerned about any dictatorships. Heck, we are friends with
many dictators. We got into the war because there was propoganda,
false as it turned out, that Iraq had or was about to have nuclear
weapons capability. WMD's. THAT was the reason the Congress approved
the war. The congress did NOT approve a war so our soldiers could go
fight islamic extremism all over the globe. Bush lied to the American
people about the WMD's, he lied about the real reasons he wanted us
over there, which were strategic and had nothing to do with WMD's.

btw, beheading, compared to guns, and not to say nu-cu-lear WMD, is a
quite primitive and ineffective production tool. And it's hard work, hand
made and much blisters! Xmas gift idea for Jihad fighter: a set of
knives in swedish steel.

Are you engaged in a discussion with me about the existing military presence
in Iraq or are you happier just spouting off about a dead horse we've all
beaten to death?

re #34 Its not a dead horse so long as we're still over there in this
mess. Maybe you are ready to completely forget the reasons that got us
over there, as if they don't matter anymore, but I am not.

Tod - and the administration - are trying to make us believe that how we
got into the war is now irelevant and should be forgotten. They don't
apply that to other crimes, felonies for example, which the law does *not*
forget "in order to get on" with things. Why should the administration's
crimes in getting us into the war go unpunished?

*snort*
I'm just not interested in rehashing what is already known. I agree the WMD
chicken little stuff was treasonous. What it has to do with reasonable minds
deciding on a withdrawal from Iraq is miniscule. If you want to be kneejerk
about withdrawal as our Prez was about invasion then you're welcome to stoop
to that level of politics. I would hope that those who replace or reverse
GW Bush's regime would at least show some responsibility and forethought.

Richard LIES. Or maybe he was ASLEEP when the news showed VIDEO of
CONGRESSMEN and SENATORS calling SADDAM an IMMINENT THREAT. SOMETHING
that the president, himself, REFUSED TO DO.
But I HOPE Richard will KEEP IT UP, because the American people know
that people like HIM can't be TRUSTED with their SAFETY and will
continue to VOTE for REPUBLICANS.

KLG wants to forget that the then at least somewhat trusted President of the
United States was taken at his word and believed by people that had no other
source of the truth. That hardly excuses Bush and his cabal for lying.

Speaking of which, I'm going to purchase a FLESHLIGHT, which is a piece of
material in a flashlight-looking case that's apparently one of the most
pleasurable things one can find to stick their penis into.
I'm slightly worried about my parents being home when it gets here, but I
figure it'll probably arrive while they're at work.
If not, I guess I can just say it's something for my computer.
Or just not say something at all, though that would arouse suspicion, which,
I'll tell you, isn't quite what I'm trying to arouse here.
And what if my parents are here but get to the door first?!
Oh dear!
But, uh!
That's not very likely to happen, and won't be an absolute disaster even if
it does happen (customs label sez JOKE ITEM, though the FORUMS part of the
Fleshlight company's website includes at least one story of that being changed
to MASSAGE DEVICE by customs).

Curl, are you pleading ignorance or insanity?
The tapes clearly show congressional leaders going far beyond what the
President said. And they show congressional leaders saying the same
things under the Clinton administration.
Don't you think it is time you showed at least a modicum of honesty??
I don't really care, though. It's people such as yourself who
demonstrate why nobody trusts the Democrats anymore. Keep up the good
work (at least through the next election).
