resp 12: I see no point in being nice to people who try to force their
religion on others (that also applies to atheists).

Hi again guolizhong. This is not a live chat but a bulletin board system.
You write something, then type . and (enter) and then another person comes
along later and writes something related.

Re 21. If you're serious about this, I can post that challenge to
Bullamanka-Pinheads, and probably generate a good answer.

yes, Neopolis is reputed to be in Western Lucas county, although I have
never been there.
that's why I was asking for directions, or I could just be horsing around.
You decide.

let's say you're filing taxes as a single person, with no other complicated
issues. youmade less than 25k and the feds took 1700 as shown on a particular
W-2. how much of that would you expect to get back?

re #34: If you made $25,000 and are filling out the 1040EZ form, your
taxable income is $17,550, and you owed $2,626 for the year. You owe
$926 if there are no other issues to be considered.
The forms are all on-line, and also the instruction booklets. Just go
to http://www.irs.gov and enter the form you want to use in the "Forms
and Publications Finder" box. It works really well.

Jim put a battery in a little gadget which is a combination clock, alarm, and
timer, and he managed somehow to set the time, but he also set the alarm for
8:00 a. m. I can reset the alarm time but how do I set it not to do the
alarm? It started beeping at 8:00 and I hit Start/Stop which quelled it but
it started again at 8:05 8:10 8:15. Short of removing the battery how do I
turn this thing off? Also how to set the day? Buttons are
Lap reset Mode and Start/Stop. I may put it under a pillow soon.
I have changed the alarm to 9:00 am and hope for an answer before that.

Grex has failed me! Logging off now. You have to remove two tiny screws to
get the battery out.

Hey, new question. Is there a special title for when a litterary critic
accuses a story of having elements in it that the author didn't intend. Like,
I'm reading a critique of Melville's Bartleby, and the critic is claiming that
Melville was unconcously appologizing for his actions in the astor riots
through the text... what do you think? Is there a literary word for that?

Yes, but when I have to write a paper on _her_ paper, it helps for me to sound
intelligent, even if I'm only creating bullshit about her bullshit...

Well, in psychology there's "projecting", for accusing someone else of having
feelings present (perhaps unknowingly) in oneself. You could accuse her of
projecting her own guilt for some previous life event onto Melville. But
then, I'm a sucker for self-referential stuff. :)

In the story it is called "impicit content". This, however, is always
present in the work of all authors, so I don't know why the critic
would "accuse" anyone. The game is to find it (although it is always
rather speculative). The other "contents" are manifest - what the story
says - and explicit - what the author intends to convey by allegory
or metaphor, etc.

Re 46, at least it beeps at a semi-reasonable time. My watch beeps at 1:30am
and I haven't been able to figure out why. The alarms (it has 2) are not set
to beep and if they were the times they are set at are 6:30am and 7:00am.
I did have it set at 1:30 at one point since I had to take a med then, but
changed the time on it several months ago, but it still beeps then.
Fortunately STeve hears very little when sleeping and because of the noise
of his C-Pap machine (and the fan being used lately) I wear earplugs and
rarely hear it.

I'd suggest rebooting your watch. ;) Take the battery out for a few
minutes, then put it back in. That should wipe out all the set alarms.
