And with that argument, which I had not previously considered,
we should be able to prevent Congress from banning accordions.

Good. There are accordion-banners where you least expect them.
Lurking hither and yon. Eager to ban the beloved squeeze box.

My favorite squeeze is, believe me, not an accordion.

Definition of a gentleman: one who knows how to play the accordion, but
choses not to?

juls
response 29 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 28 19:20 UTC 1995

I think a gentleman is one who never plays the accordion inadvertantly.

A true gentleman will play the accordion if it will save his lady love from
danger.

Now how often does THAT happen?

Brenner, all is forgiven. By your #28 I am surely a gentleman.
What's really thrilling is that I qualify under #29 and #30 as well.

I am an over-specified gentleman.

response 32 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 29 01:30 UTC 1995

I thought a true gentleman rests his weight on his elbows.

Shannon, do you play tunes, if you would chose to, and if so,
irish? scottish? Shall I bring a fiddle tolunch on Friday?

weird will never be weird again without mandel.
humdog is going into deep mourning.

response 35 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 29 13:45 UTC 1995

Thanne, I have met yet another definition of gentleman. I am
beyond doubt.

<humdog>, you should be glad you're not in Weird right now.
The rite of passage for Tom, if that's what it is, is
bizarre beyond belief. I don't go there any more.

response 36 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 29 14:11 UTC 1995

Oh Shannon, that is because you were not there for.. oh never mind.

(Carmen, the babies have started a knock off of the expedition.
They are all sad and some do not know how to deal with it. )

response 37 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 29 16:34 UTC 1995

What's the rest of that first sentence, Anita? I don't think I was
there for it, either, and since we are going to deal with this in
every topic, it would help if we could understand the references.

Opaque is my middle name. I think it is all in the archives
conference on the WELL.

thanne
response 39 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 29 22:04 UTC 1995

Well, I don't know what she means, either. But I hope that
expedition topic is providing some small degree of amusement,
if he's reading it.

I will send a postcard to the first person who
finds my evil twin.

Weird is the way it is because boswell is probably heartbroken
and nana has laid aside her whip, i imagine,
and mandel is not there to keep the standards up.

and loca, well he is probably not up to using the DustGoop
on the Edge of The Known World (loca being the Last Man
On Earth as in "Not Even If You Were The Last Man On Earth..."

This is true. I started two stock market topics, but it didn't help.

Oh yeah, brenner, I meant to tell you. I get $3,000 a day
for consulting in the investment management/business
finance area. I'm *giving it away* in another location
on the Well (sucked in and regretting it), so you'll
excuse me please if I don't post in your new topics.
Nice try, though.

juls
response 44 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 30 16:16 UTC 1995

Are you regretting it, Shannon? How come?
vsclyne
response 45 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 30 17:10 UTC 1995

We'll talk Friday.

And, oh yeah, in order to avoid the dreaded "subtext",
I'd like to announce that transcripts and, if things
get particularly good, videos of the Lunch will be
available soon after the event.

brenner
response 46 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 30 20:46 UTC 1995

Is rogerina coming to lunch?
juls
response 47 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 30 22:40 UTC 1995

Are you buying me airline fare to get to LA in time for lunch? Nooooooo.
Of COURSE not. You guys are going to have a great lunch, have a lot of
fun and eat really good food, and I'm going to moulder here in the
Land of the Usurious Parking Ticket. WAAHHH!

Put me down for a video.
vsclyne
response 48 of 89: Mark Unseen   Mar 31 05:02 UTC 1995

I'll put you down any way I can. (Well, within reason.)
