So what happened, did they get busted?
Unfortunately, I'm not in the area to listen to the Cass Coridor
when it was on. Oh well.

I think they got pissed after the Metro Times did a story on them, and decided
to shut them down for good.

My station would be a lot like 89X and what used to be WVAE.

What's it take to get a license for an AM station? I seem to remember the
costs of being 'up to par' for a license were excessivly prohibitive. You
needed certain types of equipment, certain broadcasting strength, etc...

We could start WGRX!

I'd like to create a station like WDET, where just about anything
could be played, without the fear that an idiot of a station manager
would scream at me for not playing things on some stupid play list.
No commercials, and no requests for money--that would be ideal.

WDZR in Mount Clemens ("Z Rock") with about double the power of what they
have now. No commercials of course, and a little better traffic and news
in the morning. (Traffic stinks and news is nearly non-existant). They DO
play good metallic-genre selections, though, but I often lose them somewhere
around Belleville (I-94) or the Washtenaw Co. Line (M-14) coming west from
Detroit. A 5pm, it's great to roll the windows down and crank at 75mph!

let's see now... WLIC...Hmmm sounds like a nice call. I would not
use naked air personnel, but rather a free form, Dave Dixon type
station, Anything I want (in good taste and within FCC guidelines)
anytime I want. Of course I would relegate all the bc duty to the
professional air personell while I would spend endless hours trying
desperatly to contact all countries.

Uh, any volunteers out there willing to go to St Peter Is?
only for a month or so. I see a hand...it's wb8wsf.

While we were visiting my folks in Maryland, we were reminded of how much
we like WHFS, 99.1 in Annapolis and environs. In three hours of listening
we picked up the names of two new-to-us performers who we were interested
in.

If I had a bazillion dollars, I'd just send a huge chunk
to National Public Radio and let them
figure it out, thus alleviating the
need for those bloody pledge drives.

I lament the loss of the FM WAMX, here in Ann Arbor. Trying a mix
of notNeil Diamond, not Barbra Streisand softer rock, the more folkie
type, that is the folkie type that became mainsteam in the 70's--
csn&y, James Taylor, soem Billy Joel, others. Also Roches, some
recent folk (including Christine Lavine & John Gorka). Also the
instrumental music of "smooth Jazz". They went all Oldies before
the end of the year. The jocks at WIQB where really knocking the
change, then WIQB put it's money where there mouth was, as the
took the simalcast of WIQB on 1290 am and restarted WAMX, but with
less smooth Jazz. Unfortunatly it is on a 500 watt AM station.
(Do AM stations really sound that bad, our do our new modern tuners
(designed by the Japanese now) really discount AM radio.

Unforunatly all radio freqencies in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and
Washtenaw counties are used up (FM & AM). You might be able
to find an unused freqency in Northern Michigan or other very rural
areas. Yes, the FCC "reserved" some FM freqs as the band was being
populated. It took until 1975 or so for another FM station to
start up in Houghton, Michigan.

WOWF 99.5 lasted 144 days as a talk station, talking deFeXS (WDFX)'s
rating from a dismall 2 to a more dismal 1. Before Memorial Day they
abrupltly become "Yound Country" a trademarked logo of Allicance
Broadcasting (who bought WDFX back last October). Most of their
stations use their "Young Country" format. They are now WYCD.

this town had more class!
