Vic Chesnutt's "West of Rome." Has anyone ever even heard of it?

He's a wheelchair-bound singer from Athens GA who plays guitar and makes some
of the most bald-faced honest music around. A sample lyric: "What if I said I
love you and needed somebody to help me through the obstacles. Would you say
I'm too wordy and then would you laugh. I would hugely recommend listening to
it.

A whole nation with Metallica or Elvis Costello for an anthem!?!?

I would say: Thomas Tallis' "Mass for Four Voices" or "O Sacrum Convivium"!

It would be nice to have a national anthem that was not only A) uplifting
and B) good music but C) a song which anyone or any creed could use for
the glory of their own God (or Goddess, as the case may be).

Funkadelic one nation under a groove if it has to be a national
anthem. ;-)

As for myself, although I love TMBG, Roxy Music, and a list of thousands of
groups that are known universally for their sound and lyrical compositions...
my choice for my country's theme sound would be _Operation Mindcrime_ by
Queensryche. You never hear about them out here but where I'm from, they
are HUGE. 'Mindcrime' to this day sends shivers down my spine, and it's
an album that I listen to about once a week!

I would have to have a three way tie between Dream Theater (Images and Words),
The Crow Soundtrack & Musical Score, and Denis Leary (No Cure For Cancer)

After much deliberation, I picked the soundtrack from "The Empire Strikes
Back". Despite the scifi theme of the movies, the soundtracks are very
relevant to today's music. Before you knock it, listen to it. I especially
reccommend Yoda's Theme, The Imperial March, and The Duel. Fans of Wagner's
The Ride of The Valkyries should find The Asteroid Field track interesting.

I also reccommend Tori Amos' "Little Earthquakes", Live's "Throwing Copper"
and PM Dawn
Of the Heart, of the soul and of the Cross.

Yes! The Empire Strikes Back soundtrack is fantastic! Actually I'd recommend
almost all of John William's movie scores.

My pick, probably: The Fixx' Shuttered Room

Queensryche, YES! The only problem is I don't know if it should be
Rage For Order, Operation: Mindcrime, or Empire...

OK. Best album? It's a toss-up between Gin Blossoms New Miserable Experience
and the Spin Doctors Turn it Upside Down. Of course, the Nirvana Unplugged
album is pretty cool, too.

There's only one way to go when your hypothetical country reveres Lee, Lifeson,
and Peart as Gods: Rush's "A Farewell To Kings", specifically "Closer to the
Heart".
