I sorta like the word "tribute", myself. But I watch too many historical
epics, I guess. Somehow there is just more style involved when chests
of gold and fine silks are placed at the foot of the Emperor's throne.

I guess I'm slightly "sorry" I brought the whole thing up! :-)
But I've heard enough to convince me that "dues" after all is a quite
sufficient shorthand for "membership fees" or whatever you want to call 'em.

I think "member[ship] contribution" has the right ring to it,
and am hoping that when I get my tax refund I'll be able to send
