How serious is our long-term financial situation, based on the decline
in members?

Well, I really do believe in Grex...otherwise I wouldn't keep visiting!

Except that the reaons that people have left, I'll bet are some
of the things that the Sun-4 will address. Like a) faster, b) fewer
(@*&%^@ reboots, c) a reasonable filesystem. I am betting my hopes
that as these things improve, we'll get more members.

My feeling is that those are the biggies as well. The biggest
risk I see is if the max connections are bumped up on the Sun 4,
reducing the hoped-for speed gain. I still think the connections
should be adjusted more on the Sun 3, until a better speed balance
is achieved, though Grex does seem generally faster than in the
fall, probably for a few reasons.

I don't want to see the number of pty's raised beyond the original
48 until we get an ISDN connection. Getting those extra eight connections
back will be enough for the moment. We lived with 48 on the Sun-3 for
some time, so we can do it on the Sun-4.

I think you are probably right about all that, but I think pty count can be
adjusted whenever we think it makes sense. We really don't have to make any
long term decisions right now. 48 is a good starting point. Let's see how
it runs under load at at that point. Then we can decide.

I will be paying again very soon, so don't count me out.
I think we have enough ptys. We don't have a crouding problem
like m-net. We can use the speed of leaving the setting where
they are.

I like the small community atmosphere here. I hope it doesn't change
in the near future.

join grex....>

(We hope it doesn't, either. Don't forget that if you can't
join, thats OK--stay here anyway! I sure don't want to hear
anyone thinking of leaving because they can't afford it.)

(I still feel kinda bad that I can't help tho'...I know what it's like
to live paycheck to paycheck. And in the words of robh and others, I'm too
nice sometimes...it's one of my biggest downfalls.)

You might feel a little better if you sent in a check for $2.60?
This is approximately what it costs to run Grex for 5 hours; 52
cents an hour. Every little bit helps. Even tiny amounts are
truely appreciated.

Well, pretty soon I'll have enough to actually be a member, so...
*grin*
(Sorry, didn't mean to go off on some tangent about my financial woes...)
