re #23, that's what seemed to have been the case last time. reread the
thrashing and learn from the history. repeating it is not something
i would prefer, thankyouverymuch.

as for the 'lecture' bit, given the thrashing over the last restart,
you are probably correct. it will fail to alter anything even if it
was a noble experiment at reinforcing tolerance as the perceived system
concept to expect when joining. oh, well.

I've always liked the "lecture" but then I'm part of the minority. Either
way, is fine with me. I'm nore interested in logouts than logins. Coop is
the first cf on my cflist, and the logout causes the agora login to page.
It's a bit annoying. But then, maybe I should take that to agora? :)

Trying to get Agora's login screens shortened is truly hopeless.

Heh... I trimmed 2 lines from the agora banner earlier this evening, before
I saw this item.

If you don't want to see the agora banner, add a line to your .cfonce file
that says:
      define linmsg "Joining %s\n"
You lose a lot of other information, but you also lose the long login screens.
Likewise, you can nuke all logout messages with the line:
      define loutmsg "\n"

TS - The funny thing about your login screen is that while it preached
tolerance, it preached *your* particular view of tolerance, and you seemed
extremely intolerant of other people's suggestions/thoughts/ideas. You
yourself weren't following anything like the process the screen says you
believe in.

Sigh... I hope I didn't re-start the login screen debate with that response.
*Whatever* the login screen says, I think co-op needs re-starting badly.

well, it was "our" login screen, not "my" login screen but aside from that,
"extremely intolerant" would include that there were no changes from the
original - obviously false, changes were *requested* and included for the
most part. if there are some other criteria of "extreme intolerance" email
me (or post here, whatever).

that i didnb't lash back says a helluva lot, if you really want to know.

as far as "lecture" goes, that's certainly someone else's choice of words,
hardly mine/ours.

adn regarding "intolerance;" what "tolerance" was included for us? none.
universal fingerfrothing&condemnation. we had to gouge out the few
and far-between non-hormonal recognitions that there just might, maybe,
possibly be something salvagable, something redeeming somewhere in those
17 or so lines.

tolerance goes in two directions at least. ain't been much of
a second direction that i've read around here.

adn , fwiw, again regarding a login screen, it doesn't sit very well with
me, for example, to create something in concert with someone else
and damn near get
run out of here tarred and feathered by the most insubstantial snit. maybe
a lecture is due, but it ain't gonna come from me, it shoulda come from
some 4th grade teacher a long time ago.

yeh, i'd ask for a new coop.cf if there was some sort recognion for a job
done reasonably well under the some rather trying circumstances and my
new coop fw and i will come up with a new screen and there won't be a new
volcano of snits.

even recently i *tried* to engage a severe critic - plausible reasoning
for being "unavailable." that was the response.

gotta get off here for a bit, l8tr.

If you don't get this restart done soon, then you aren't doing a
reasonable job, trying conditions or no.

A line amounting to something like "Grex's official forum for policy
discussion" wouldn't be out of place, either.

That's fine too.. mine was somewhere between what we have now, and what mdw
suggested.
Anyway, so, is this going to happen?

response 41 of 47: Mark Unseen   Nov 24 16:34 UTC 1996

Yep. The new coop is made, the login screen is installed, and we are in the
process of getting the items in place. Probably a week, two at the most,
before we request the alias be changed.

I dont like the coop9 login screen. It is still too wordy. Why
does the conf need to be defined on the entrance screen.n Why
not a simple "coop" graphic and ONE line saying "This is the
coop conf where .etc" Stick the longer definition of Coop in the
bulletin section and note that on the screen. If the new coop
entrance screen is what is currently up in coop9, there is simply going to
be another long argument about it.

Just get a simple graphic and be done with it!
