Ouch. Oh well. I can see Zingerman's point too.

This evening I checked with my apartment complex, and they say it'll cost
$50 to use the clubhouse for a meeting. (!!!) That's a discount price:
normally it would cost $100 for a longer or a daytime meeting.
I dragged Rob over to the Michigan Union basement this evening at about
7, to see how the crowd there is on a weeknight at about the time of a
Grex board meeting. The place was quiet, greasy-smelling, and fairly
peaceful. It's open 'til midnight. Considering that there are only a
few days left 'til the meeting (and I'm going to be out of town for a
number of those days), I think it makes sense to go ahead and plan to meet
there this month.

The Red Bull has multiple small dining areas which are _relatively_ quiet,
and private, depending on the size of the group. I'm sure you could request
(reserve) an adequate space.

That would be a repeat of the problem we had at Washington Street Station.
It is a real restaurant, and if we aren't renting the space, they would
at least expect everyone to order something. That puts people who want
to attend the Grex meeting without spending any money at a disadvantage.
(I like the Red Bull, BTW)

Someone at the Movable Feast thought that maybe they could arrange for
Grexers to meet there, in one of their meeting rooms. I explained that
I don't think it's an ideal choice, because we generally don't all buy
food. The fellow from Movable Feast seemed to think that that wasn't
a problem. I dunno... it sounds a bit upscale compared to our usual
meeting places. I don't think it's a likely option, but I figured I'd
mention it.

If they were considering this act a "donation", I think we'd be happy to
accept. OTOH, if there were an expectation of business, then I think it
would be a poor choice, because it would discourage some people from
attending.

Hey, no one has said anything on this item in a while. I was at the Aug
meeting in the Union food court and it seemed like a good place to meet.
Definately a lot better than some of those impossible meetings at Zing's.
But soon we will have to expect a lot more school types in the food court.
What about meeting rooms or ordinary public spaces with benches at Briarwood?
Meeting room at Gallup park?

Briarwood closes at 9 on weekdays, I doubt it would be suitable
for any kind of long meeting.

Malls generally have people on duty whose specific mission is to
disperse unwanted activites by the public, such as shop-lifting,
demonstrations, or public meetings.

So that means we can't meet there to plan our shoplifting
rally? >8)

Methinks that would be somewhat frowned upon... :-)
