Re #22: dadroc
Umm, what "software" would you have us purchase? Unix, by it's very nature,
just isn't a very secure environment. Would you like to see us
run under Windows or OS/2?

Seriously, there is nothing that is "better". Free, for purchase, or
otherwise.

re #??: The bounced check has been covered.

re: the security issue. I was talking to a friend who's a system
administroator for the European Space Agency, describing Grex
and our recnet space of security problems. After he got through
laughing his ass off, he told me that with such an open system,
there's not much more we can do.

btw, Steve, he said he'd be happy to help if you need another person
to bounce ideas off of.

Sure. I'm always willing to talk. ...and I guess I have to disagree
about 'not much we can do'. There are, and we're getting to closing up
things such that Grex is more secure than before. Any time-sharing
system based on UNIX has to do this too, and there are systems which
are pretty hard to beat. I think we're getting Grex in that direction.

Good old days? The ones when 2 out of 3 times, you'd log in and not
be able to read a conference because there was no free disk space? When
there were 180 people listed in /etc/passwd, and no more than 5 on at a
time because that's all the phone lines that were available? When Grex
was constantly broke, really struggling to keep it's head above water? I
like the new Grex.

Now now, there are always going to be good things, bad things,
and things that people remember as good that they want to
have again. "Lugh never closes one door without opening another."
