Re resp:22: The key difference is that RSS is designed to be read by
programs and aggregated into lists of items, often from different pages.
For example, I have an RSS reader that pulls feeds from several security
websites and provides a news ticker of their headlines on my desktop.
Without it, I'd have to visit each site in turn to find out what's new.
Another use for RSS is as a syndication service. One web page can use
it to automatically pull in articles from another, much like newspapers
pull in stories from a wire service.
Thanks for the article, remmers. I was familiar with most of it, but I
was still unclear on what "podcasting" was all about.

Re resp:23: A wiki is just a document that can be freely edited by
anyone. The biggest example I'm aware of is the Wikipedia,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page. Anyone can sign up and add or
edit an article. One key feature is the ability for the document to be
reverted to a previous version, which makes it quick and easy for people
to undo defacements and other malicious activity.
I'm not too impressed by the Wikipedia itself, but wikis do seem like an
excellent way to maintain things like software FAQs.

Re #22: The S5 system I used to construct the slideshow is pretty cool;
open source, free, and does its thing using only HTML, CSS, and
Javascript. So it works in just about any 21st century graphical web
browser. Easy to construct slides too. Downloads and documentation are
at http://meyerweb.com .

(By the way, speaking of RSS - there's is a nice, succinct explanation
of what RSS is and what it can do for you on - of all places - the
website of the Burpee Seed Company, which just started offering RSS
feeds. Happy gardening!)

The Vocal Arts Ensemble presents a concert this Tuesday evening, March
15, at 7:30 PM, at the First Congregational Church (at the corner of
State and William Streets). The selections are all Irish or Irish
inspired, in honor of St. Patrick's Day. I will be singing two solo
songs by Arnold Bax, "To Eire," and "The Fairies." Both are very cool
songs. Admission is $10.

Thu June 2, 1:20-1:40pm Solo set, Stark Pavilion (free)
Fri June 3, 12:20-12:40pm Solo set, Maple Leaf Park (free)
Sat June 4, 12:20-12:40pm Solo set, Maple Leaf Park (free)
