For those who want to be able to talk about spam in French, here is a
response to my reporting a Nigeria-type spam from Togo, where they
apparently speak French, sent via a French-language free email service. 
The real Nigeria spams are in terrible English and tend to be from Yahoo. 
I am surprised at the good English of this one.  Larry Kestenbaum, aka
polygon@grex.org, is collecting Nigeria spams so forward them to him.
I think someone must have published a template for this sort of spam.
Half of them have the subject line URGENT BUSINESS PROPOSAL, and they all
have certain requisite elements, explaining how the original owner of the
money died, and there is 100% no risk, and it must be kept confidential.

My latest spam (which had some rather strange looking html in it - I will
post that next) appears to have come from Brazil, disguised as
Rocketmail.com.  Can anyone tell me what the following reply means?  I can
make out download, mailbox, virus, spam, and server (servidor).

Please don't post long pieces of email in yet another item.  Has it ever
occured to you that in posting these email is also a form of spreading the
spam?  Spam email I can just hit a delete key.  When they are dropped in an
item I have to at least scroll through them to read the rest of the item or
forget an item that I was finding interesting.  There are other items devoted
to interesting emails and spam emails please use them and leave other items
alone.

Of the four most recent people to email us about Jim's room for rent three
are from other countries.  One preferred to keep it to email so that he would
understand the conversation better.  He is from India.  Another is from Ghana
(already living in Ypsi) and the last is from Dresden (Eastern Germany).  I
never expected people to be searching for rooms to rent from that distance.
Isn't email wonderful?

Better late than never? At least I can show off the fruits of two months
studying Portuguese. ;)

resp:1 The Nov. 30, 2002 e-mail is an automatic response acknowledging 
the receipt of your e-mail with subject "THIS IS THE PLACE TO GET 
DISCREET "SEX ON THE SIDE"...". The e-mail has been received by the 
Abuse Department and a reply will be sent within three days. The Dec. 1 
e-mail is the promised reply. They have analyzed the message you 
forwarded and identified the the author as belonging to Network 
Telecommunications of Sao Paulo (TELESP), which is receiving a copy of 
this e-mail. Further communication regarding this case should be sent 
directly to the Abuse Dept. at TELESP. (In other words, they passed the 
buck on to the next provider.)

resp:4 The Dec. 21, 2002 e-mail is another automatic response from the 
same company, as you surmised in resp:5, this time to your forwarded 
e-mail with subject "get out of debt in 36 months or less". Again, a 
reply from the Abuse Dept. is promised within three days.
