I am working Monday-Friday during the summer and taking classes on
either Saturday or Sunday. Doesn't leave me much time to travel 500
miles for a grex convention and get back in time to meet all my
obligations... *sigh* well, give it a few years.

Poor Amy!!! I don't think that I would be able to make it to a Grex
convention either because I will either have to work or won't have
the money!!!:(

Still, though, let's start planning something. If it takes as long to plan
as it seems to be taking to get one convention on the go, maybe I will be
able to make it! *grin*

I know I'm coming in a bit late here, but I have never seen so much bickering.
Anyway...If the grex convention is to be held in Michigan, it should be held in
a centralized location. In Michiganth\\ this includes almost every city south
of the Mackinac Bridge. Gaylord, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Midland, you name it.
There are plenty of freeways and highways connecting the state to a route from
anywhere in Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and other Midwest areas. This is good
news for all of the grexers from McKendree, Columbus, U of M, and other
assorted areas. Kenn took it upon himself to suggest this event, and support
his reasoning with facts and sensible arguments. No reason existed for the
childish flaming I've seen. As for planning...there are a lot of people on
here who deal in that type of thing, and I would be more than happy to help
with whatever is needed. Carpooling is also an excellent idea, referring back
to Kenn's earlier post. Numerous people hail from the Southern Michigan area,
and even if it takes place in Ann Arbor, most Northerners would most likely be
happy to carpool. A grex convention is an event to bring us all together to
meet each other in person. I've met a lot of nice people on here...so I would
think this would run a bit smoother. Whenever or wherever this is going to
take place, Kenn, mark me down for anything you guys need help with. See you
in a few days...Sarah :)

also keep in mind that there are going to be people who whine about not
being able to go when they wouldn't have gone in the first place. I
think that concentrating on the constructive aspects of this
discussion will help in the planning. I hope to speak with Kenn about
this when I'm in Gaylord. ;)

I *will* come to any grex convention if I have the time, the money, and
the permission of my parental units. Of course, right now, the
probability seems to be rather low... :=( something called financial
independence is a future goal... *sigh* well, it's 461 days to
graduation for this grexer.

Re 179 - You've never seen this much bickering? Obviously I'm not
the only one who never reads Agora. >8)

Er... if you don't read agora, how do you know whether or not there's
bickering in it? (In my opinion agora is a generally pretty harmonious
place).

around here...

Ja, sometimes. But compared to the flamiest Usenet newsgroups or to
other systems I've been on, Agora really is very laid back.

So, I should ask, what kind of convention are we looking at? Kami
just pulled off a wonderful one last weekend here in Southfield, with many
of the participants being from A2 or further away..
Southfield does offer a LOT of convention hotels, and other
accomodations, and the highway connectivity of Southfield is, all in all,
very complete. Any thoughts?

Maybe I don't get it. Maybe flames and arguing over petty things is just good f
orm here at Grex. I just read this whole item and it seems that there's a lot
of arguing and division over stupid, little issues.
YIPPEEEE! So you've had some small get-togethers. The header here was to make
a big 'all-in-one' convention for everyone. I think it's interesting that
Wolfmage (the guy who started the item) has abandoned it because of all the
bickering.

...Which is unusal for an item on Grex. I think that what is a reasonable
first-cut type of convention, or gathering, is to find a meeting type place,
garner information on hotels/crash space, and see who all will come. I don't
think a lot of pre-planning is in order, through some is necessary, and a
little more is desireable. A few planned things like classes would be
reasonable, but more than that probably doesn't make a lot of sense. If it
were held a someones house, it could work, provided it was basically a one
day thing. And comments?
