FWIW, Siam Cuisine (in Braun Ct.) was close for more than an hour after
the opening time proclaimed in their window. I wandered back later,
they were open, and i was told that they'd opened late for one-time
reasons. They seemed eager for our future business.
Dunno. Siam' is supposed to open at 11:30. Farmer's Market (across
the street, maybe 30 paces from their front door) was swarming with
people all morning and Kerrytown's little eateries were packed tight
when i checked there shortly after noon. Crowds were still pretty
light & not all the food vendors open at the Festival (1-3 blocks
away) around 12:30 when we headed down there for lunch. My guess is
that business is too light Saturday mornings for Siam' to take their
opening time seriously.

The motd says, for the walk 'see Agora Item 35'. I saw, I left, I searched.
Can someone fix the motd to read 15 instead?

I was thinking of going, but the meeting place is not only on the far side
of the Arboretum from us, but even past it. We generally go in near the
hospital, without crossing the river twice first.

So, do what I used to do: Show up at the rapids section around 10:50 and wait
for the Grexers to show up.

This weeks walk featured
Four Men:
Mark Conger
Jan Wolter
Jeff Kaplan
Dan Romanchik
Three Women:
Chris Bickler
Carol Mohr
Valerie Mates
Three Children (in Three Baby Strollers):
Arlo Mates
Ross Kaplan
Kendra Wolter
Three Dogs:
Mutsie
Barney
Athena
Mark joined late and Dan left early, so for most of the walk we had
perfect 3-3-3-3 symmetry. In a well organized universe each couple
would have one dog and one child, but this is not a well organized
universe.
The other walkers express their gratitude to Dan, Mark and Carol for
their generous assistance with excess dogs and strollers, however it
was still a record slow walk. This is partly because the dog-walkers
took a side trip to the peony garden, while the stroller pushers took a
child maintenance break.
Athena is a special guest dog, not the property of any of the human
walkers.
It was 1:00 by the time we had finished the walk. Jeff & Chris & Jan &
Valerie all had side trips they had to make before reaching the
restaraunt, so it would have been about 1:45 before we could get there.
We decided it was unlikely that any non-walking Grexers would be still
waiting for us at that point, so decided to go to a more restuarant
more convenient to our places of abode instead. I believe Mark & Carol
went to the regulation debriefing site, Jerusalem Garden.

I believe Jeff once described an extra dog on the walk as his "hot-swappable
backup dog".
Yes, Carol and I went to Jerusalem Garden, but didn't meet any Grexers. We
got to sit outside, though, and it was nice.

I trekked down to Jerusalem Garden to try to meet up with you all, but I see
my timing was off.

Conditions for the Saturday morning walk were misty and drizzly.
The damp walkers were janc, aruba and krj. We took a detour
through the Peony Garden, which is now about at peak -- some buds
are still unopened, while others are starting to shed petals.
The detour took us through parts of the Arb I had never seen before
-- I really need to make some more exploratory walks in there.
aruba and krj proceeded to lunch at the Golden Wall, where we were
joined by Carol and russ. The Golden Wall is in the former DaLat
building, at the intersection of Cross and Ballard streets in Ypsilanti,
about one block east of La Fiesta Mexicana. The Golden Wall
is primarily Vietnamese food with a small Chinese menu. The consensus
was that the food was good, and the seating was quite flexible for
a group of indeterminate size, so The Golden Wall should go into
the regular restaurant rotation.

Glad to see you did the Golden Wall. It's a frequent lunch or dinner
spot for me during the school year.

Re #190: Say, John, do you want to be the Ypsi post-walk eatery scout?

My usefulness would be limited. May-August I don't go to Ypsi much,
and the rest of the year, my scouting range would be limited to walking
distance from my office, which boils down to Cross Street. All the
places on Cross Street that I frequent are already on the list.
With one exception, I guess. The Tower Restaurant is decent and on
Cross Street, and could handle a Grexwalk-size crowd, but to my
knowledge we've never been there. So I'll nominate that.
For generalized Ypsi scouting, an Ypsi resident would be better --
e.g. slynne, happyboy, or mspiggy. But none of them have done the
walks or debriefs, so far.

Heh. When I eat out in Ypsi these days, I mostly do the depot town
thing since I live only a couple of blocks away. I think Sidetrack is
already on THE LIST but I dont know about the other places: Cady's,
Aubrees, etc. There is a really good deli right between Cady's and
Sidetrack but I am blanking on the name. They have *REALLY* good
sandwiches and stuff. I like to get them 'to go' and then go eat them
in Riverside park with the doggers. That might be something that folks
who bring their dogs to the walk might like.

I remember when you came on the walk, Lynne. That's the only time I've met
you in person. We've never been to Cady's, or Aubree's, or the deli after
the walk.
