I think the newer dos boot records are actually smart enough to scan the
directory for IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS. Dos 6 certainly seems to behave
this way. The error logic is still basically non-existant...

Thanks for all the help i've partioned my 486's hd from a very small 500Mb
into 2 very very small partions + The deal with the boot up sequence - i get
it now: The files io.sys etc have to be in the first sector of the HD, this
is unlikely to happen if i just copy them there. I ran the sys command on my
c drive which copies the files into this first, boot sector - all sorted TY!

or at the very least a long time. I work for Waldenbooks which is secretly
owned by Borders Group inc. Sometimes I see tpryan (and others) wandering the

Now, boys, we can split the population up evenly and you can each have half.
There's enough to go around.

Hello everyone, my name is Chad. I have been on Grex for about two weeks now.
I am 30 years old, and I am a Special Forces Communication Sergeant in Ft.
Bragg, NC. I am Learning to Speak Serbian right now, and I am also trying to
teach myself UNIX. I once had my own BBS in Louisiana back in 1984!!!! Man,
how things have changed from back then!!!

I actually go out of all of the "computer stuff" in about 1986! And when I
started back up a few years ago I was blown away by all of the changes!
I didn't think BBSs still existed anymore, after the first time I got on the
internet. It was unbelievable that SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much information
was being transmitted that quickly. I guess it seems pretty amazing when
your last contact with a computer involved a 1200 baud modem, a homemade
BBSs program, Punter Protocol download, and ONE 1541 floppy diskdrive!
