Futurama had a *very* obscure joke about this... probably it would have to
be obscure to get past the censors. In one scene the main characters go to
a gym, and at one point walk past a women on a "Kegelcizer" machine with a
*big* stack of weights going up and down. :)

When Adrienne was preparing for childbirth, they recommended that she do kegel
exercises to help her control her bladder after pregnancy. :)

Mall gangstas ... ah, how to describe ... you know what mall goths are
like from Hot Topic, right? Stop on by Pacific Sunwear or Mr. Rags and you'll
see a mall gangsta.

Mr. Rags . . . is that like, um, Puffer Reds or something? Is Pacific
Sunwear . . . no, wait, what *is* Pacific Sunwear?

I'm assuming John's talking about folks who dress in those styles that,
well, hang out at the mall, or, the type that dress in those manners
using the trendiest threads they can find, like wanna-bes.

I can't stand those types. Talk about wanting to lock someone in a hot
car . . .

Well, they're sort of like mall hippies. Now that malls have
diversifited, and offer punk rock, goth, and gangsta threads, you run into
a whole subculture of people who wear nothing but the mall variety, which
isn't quite like the Real Thing.

Actual Frank Zappa song quote (circa 1974):
Now is that a real poncho,
Or a Sears poncho?

(referring to the hippie-Mexican-poncho look then in vogue)

huh? Sapna, I think Zappa was commenting on how some things get so
mainstreamed.. (read his book on the music industry.. funny, but oh so
true)

in other words, he asked, did you get that in Mexico, or at Sears?

I do remember seeing photos of those ponchos, including facsimilies
from patterns in crochet and sewing magazines. I'm so glad I was too
young to participate in that trend.

I think it really depends. I don't mind bell-bottom pants, platform
shoes or shiny shirts. Putting them together, though, is often grounds
for disaster if you do it wrong. The leisure suits, however, should
never be worn again, I don't care how fly you think you are.
