This movie came out in the early 80's, maybe around 1984 (I never saw it in
the theatres, just rented it around '86 or so).
Micheal Palin plays a torturer, working for the department of "Information
Retrieval". He was not the main character, just a small part.

"Brazil" is the movie! Can you get the extra point by identifying the
characters involved?

Well, maybe you never heard of "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen", but it's
also a Monty-Python related (affiliated?) film. It may not have had much of
a theatre run in the US, but I remember renting a few times.
Very funny film, BTW. Highly recommended!

I found Brazil to be a terribly depressing movie, but very good. It was a
long time ago that I saw it, though, and I've heard that the American release
was butchered.

Brazil is *very* dark comedy. I liked all the "future past" Brit technology,
like telephones with patch cords and John Cleese's commercial at the
beginnging: "Are you tired of your ducts? Well, now we have *new* ducts..."

Tombstone - the first quote is the drunken Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) after
being accused of being so drunk that he was seeing double.
